actually they are built like a tank so you can drive it into a wall and the wall will fall over before the H2, its built like a brick **** house designed to take 50cal round :p i think, anyway its tough and thats why it costs so much. If i had the cahs id own one in the blink of an eye they ****ing  . no matter what you think its down to personal preference.

^^^^ the one up there ^^^^ on the other hand does have some shiny wheels and i hope there using the hydrolic suspension to its fullest other wise that thing wont ride of a 10p piece let alone a hill

The only way an H2 is practical is when you have the money to spend on it and use it for what its designed for. In other words, you can drop the thousands on one and not care if it gets beat up and abused.

That lowered one is just moronic.

Of course a few points should be made

    1) That manages to make an awful vehicle so much worse.
    2) It has no redeeming features.
    3) The Hummer isn't a particularly safe vehicle as it doesn't have to comply with standard car crash tests. No 4x4s do. Their design is somewhat akin to 1920s cars where the driver takes the full force of the accident. Crumple zones were invented for a reason ;)!

Mind you most Americans have a lot of cushioning.

Uh, why? 1st of all, that has GOT to be the dumbest thing I have EVER seen in my life. Let's take a $50,000 truck designed for off-road use and turn it into a useless piece o' garbage that probably wouldn't even make it over a speed bump let alone a dirt road.

Hands down the absolute worst waste of money I have seen in a LONG time...

the old up-armored military humvee can take a 50cal round, the old school hummers were built like tanks and cost a fortune... the new H2s are around the same as a fully trimmed large SUV (which is what it is)... fgure same price range as a Ford Excursion with all of the trimmings...

I for one own a suv, and its only purpose is off roading (Jeep Wrangler thats been lifted and given a nicer tranny/axel setup)... and I own a truck thats been dropped to extremely low, and its not bagged, no need, it still has sports car clearance...

Yea, the H2 is actually built on a Yukon chasis with a standard General Motors 4x4 drivetrain.

About 4x4s being particularly safe, I have seen a head on collision between a merc S class and a Toyota Landcruiser.

The Merc was ripped apart, there was no front left, the engine block was somewhere in the front seat, with the front seat steering wheel and stuff in the back seat. The driver survived because he didnt wear a seatbelt and so was thrown out. Whereas the landcruiser, didnt have anything but a small dent on the bumper and the driver was absolutely safe... and Mercs are supposed to be one of the best built cars.

I would take a 4x4 for safety personally.

    Well.. maybe a bit exaggerated.
I can only agree with you about the H2 being a regular SUV but with a slight hint of Hummer in the looks, but about the old one capable of taking a .50 cal bullet?
Well.. a .50 wouldn't probably exit on the other side if it hit the engine, but not even the old Hummer could stop a bullet like that. I did my military service in an APC (Russian built, converted MTLB) http://www.nellis.af.mil/TTF/MTLB.htm , and that has 12mm (1/2") Armor plate steel as a "body" which actually can stop a .50 bullet at most places, but just barely. (There is a reason to why the .50 sniper rifles like Barrett is being used to snipe out APC drivers)

The MTLB weighs 12 metric tonnes (12'000 kg ~ 26700 lbs) and the Hummer weighs what?.. maybe up towards 3 tonnes (6500-6700 lbs)? Guess where the difference is.. armor plate is HEAVY.

Agreed, the H1 is a totally awesome vehicle.. and it's sturdy.. very very sturdy.. but it's not a tank ;)

but you have to admit, its as close to a tank as a 'normal' road vehicle can get

regular hummer is in the 6000-7000lb range, up armored hummer is anywhere from 8000-9500lb depending on model (turtle shelled, tuck, 4 person) and how heavily armored.... my brother is part of the army reserve, and works on them for his 1 weekend a month, they do stop arms up to 50cal because they had one that had been shot up by a ma duece on the base last time i went with him there to look at scrapping it for them ($2k and 6 hours later I watched it be taken out on a flatbed in 7 pieces)... was fun to torch it

H2's are a waste of money. What is the point in buying a Hummer when it isnt a REAL Hummer. The H2's are made out of plastic. If you are gonna buy a Hummer, buy a REAL Hummer.

    ;)

Had an H2 behind me in Blackburn the other day.

Bit of a rare sight to see a hummer in the UK - how the hell can he afford it? (tax, insurance and FUEL COSTS!!!)

Suffice to say I was driving rather fast. I can see it now...

    Hummer 1 - Nissan Micra 0.

I want..... no NEED an original Hummer.... you can't argue with a 60degree approach angle.
