I just got done dremelin out 2 80mm holes in the back of my case, and a 120mm hole in the front for some fans, but the edges are a bit jagged.... (ive got grills comin for the 2 80s in the back, and a filter for the 120 intake in the front) What kinda plasic or stuff should i put around the edges of that so i dont cut my finger or sumthin (and also make it look nice) - im gonna look @ home depot 2night, and see what they got... i'll post pics of my dremel action later!
did u sand it down with the Dremel and a sanding bit? or a filer? or sand paper? that might work alittle.
id use a dremel sanding cylinder with coarse paper , ya itll kill the paper really fast, but it works good, especialy at med- high speed... to finish it off, the thin door edge molding for car doors would work for the 120, dunno if itll flex enuff for the 80's though
tk421, why aren't you at your post? OK, just had to say it. Anyway, PCMods has some great molding for sale. It is pretty expensive, but I used it on my 80 mil fan holes, and it worked really well. Just make sure you order the larger quantity, as you will want more of it after you start using it. If you haven't been there, the link is : http://www.pcmods.com/details.asp?prodID=19 this link is to the 3 foot strip, but I think you can get 6 feet for like 5 bucks more. You can check out the site though and decide for yourself.
i sanded it down with the dremel allready, so its pretty well done, but im still lookin for some ideas of what to put around the edges.... my dad suggested silicone sealer around the edges... it will reduce vibration and protect it, and wont be too hard to get off if i want it off..... its also not $9 + s&h for the edging from PCMods (it does look good, but not THAT good...) I also dont have any rubber washers right now, and was lookin around the house and found some little cork stoppers (a few mm think) and thought that if i drilled a whole in those, and made them washers, they would supply good insulation between the fan and case to reduce vibration... Any thoughts? Good/bad ideas???
Get some blowhole trim from www.kustompcs.co.uk Only 49p a metre or something silly. That's what I've got on all of mine
Just one problem with that UK site.. By the time he is done shipping it to Michigan it might as well be $9!
v0id...have u heard of crazypc.com? its an online store that is based out of Walled Lake, Michigan. Its on the out skirts of Detroit. They have some fan molding thats like only 2 dollars. uuhh...Holland has some great stores for stuff like that...u should come visit us, besides, Tulip Times coming soon!!!!!!!!!!!!wooohoooo, i hate turiosts
i ended up buyin some clear plasic tubing (1/8") and slicing it down one side and then filling it with some white silicone sealer and putting it around the edges.... i'll post some pics later - it doesnt look the best every, but it works - and thats all that madders really... how often do u see the back of ur case newayz???
you can get dor moulding from a auto parts store, and heat it up with a hairdryer to make it flex enough for ya.
it does show inperfections...... but oh well.... it kinda shows where the silicone sealer didnt go everywhere.... which kinda looks bad, but i can always redo it later... i got the tube at home depot.... its the kinda tube stuff you'd see on a beer hat sorta... had no problems gettin it around a 80mm hole... and it was cheap!
Pep Boys auto stores sell door molding in 25 foot lengths for around 10 bucks. Pretty flexible as is, but works even better heated up with a hair dryer. Self-adhesive. Get the 25' roll, not those two-strip kits (no tflexible enough).
As i said.... doesnt look that pretty - but this is also my first modding job, and its not perminent, so i can take the "molding" off at any time... i will also have fan grills on there so it may cover it up a bit, but it helps w/ vibration and protects the edges for now
i may end up redoin it sometime.... but that'll be a later project - im gonna see what it looks like w/ some fan grills on there first
