I have a new Xeon processor and I was thinking of overclocking. I know nothing about overclocking the Ivy Bridge i7. Ive been using AMD for a while. I have a Xigmatek heatsink on it and temps are really good. I know the processor is locked but is there anything I can do on it? I am using an Asrock Extreme4 matx motherboard with 1600mhz Dominator ram. Any Ivy bridge clockers using something without the K on it? Thanks in advance!

Xeon equals no overclocking. Well, not entirely true. You can increase BCLK a bit at possible expense of stability. You can maybe increase the turbo clocks a bit, to the limit of the CPU.

And that is it. In short - you don't buy Xeon or non-K Core CPU, if you want overclocking.

Well I don't know why you are saying "Xeon" which is a server processor rather than home consumer processor. It never ceases to amaze me how many people buy systems without knowing anything about them. Before I buy a new processor I read as much as I can about it on the various tech sites first. I know how the overclocking works on a particular processor even before I've bought it because I've read the information about it.

Since you have a non-K you are limited to bclk for overclocking.

Well, simple reason to buy Xeon E3-1245 V2 is that it is about 40 euros cheaper than i7-3770 and about 80 euros cheaper than i7-3770K, while still being a 3.3GHz quad core with hyperthreading.

But in case you want overclock, it is a bad choice. Otherwise, it is fine for anyone who doesn't want to overclock, but want a cheap quad core with HT.

I bought it to sell in my workstations as that is what my customers want. I was just wondering if there was a way to boost it for shits and giggles.

Did you manage an overclock? Any benchmarks on a BCLK raise?
