overclocking those old 486s didn't reap much gain. But then again nor does oclocking a PIV or an Athlon in % terms . Many of the old 486s didn't have very big heatsinks or active ones at that. As a result, you'll find there won't be much room in that case for putting anything bigger on. Sticking something on it like a stripped down version of linux and using it as an internet browser by your bedside might be a better idea. If you can't tinker the hardware to run faster there's only one other thing you can tweak and modify...(software)...it's not as fun (to most ) but it'll reap more results than tweaking the chip to run faster.
