That's a 2GB kit. I've had it benchable up to 295 (S-PI 32M Fine @ 290, gaming failure) with those lats.
is it Geil? also what do you guys think of ocz's gold and platinum series RAM? is it good for overclocking?? coz they have this voltage warranty thing, wherby you can increase the memory voltage to 2.9 without voiding your warranty.
It all depends how much you're willing to pay to eek out every last 0.1% of performance. If I was going to splash out some serious cash on memory I would carefully consider things such as 2x1GB PC3200 versus 2x512MB PC4000 (or similar). Crucial Ballistix is top notch stuff otherwise I'd suggest Corsair. http://www.crucial.com/uk/store/listmodule.asp?family=DDR&tabid=DDR+PC4000 2x512MB PC4000 2.5-4-4-8 for £93 inc delivery and lifetime warranty. Would probably do 2-2-2-6 around DDR400 too, so it should be good for testing low latency versus raw speed and finding the optimimum compromise. 2x1GB PC3200 CL3 for £116 inc delivery and lifetime warranty. http://www.komplett.co.uk/k/ki.asp?sku=304349 2x512MB PC4400 Corsair CL2.5 £140 2x512MB PC3500 OCZ 2-2-2-5 £150 2x512MB PC3500 TwinMOS-SP CL2.5 £70 (great perf to price ratio) 2x512MB PC3200 Corsair-VS CL2.5 £60 (great perf to price ratio) 2x1GB PC3200 Corsair-VS CL3 £122 2x512MB PC3200 Corsair CL2 £78 (great perf to price ratio) If you were to put an extra £70-90 into your CPU or gfx card you would see VERY significant gains, the gains will be much smaller putting it into your RAM.
thanks sooooo much guys, mainly fr4nk, austin and tulatin. you guys have really helped me pls more suggestions are welcome ty guys
For 2x1GB even decent branded basic sticks come in around £120 and that's for PC3200 CL3. Of course that shouldn't limit your o/c nor overly effect your PC's performance but if you were after something more special you're likely to need to up your budget a bit. I would imagine you're looking more for 2x1GB PC3200 CL2.5 of a decent brand as a minimum with faster stuff (eg PC3500) being more ideal. 1GB sticks tend to be more limiting when it comes to latency or raw speed.
I have to make a decision now i think. Here are the possibilities, and i would appreciate it if you guys would say which one you would go for: Mushkin 2GB DDR EM3200 Enhanced Performance Dual Channel Kit (2x1GB) CAS3 (991461) (MY-006-MK) £135 OCZ 2GB (2 x 1GB) PC3200 Dual Channel Platinum Series EL-DDR CAS2 (OCZ4002048ELDCPE-K) (MY-057-OC) £158 Corsair 2GB DDR XMS4000PT TwinX (2x1GB) CAS3 (MY-094-CS) £152 G.Skill 2GB DDR ZX PC3200 (2x1GB) CAS2 Dual Channel Kit £152 Other suggestions are also welcome. You can see my price range (around £150) and im looking for 2x1gb sticks thanks guys
It mostly depends on what you personally want and whether it's worth forking out the extra cash for the better RAM. Take a look at your preferred sellers and see what's on offer at what price. You simply may need to pay more than £150 for 2x1GB of well branded DDR rated faster than CL3/PC3200.
