Just wondering if anyone has been tinkering with this yet and if so what your temps have been like, im currently sitting at 4.5Ghz (45x99.8) with a vcore of 1.24v. Under prime small FFT's test I am very close to hitting treble figures on my hottest cores, 97 deg on the hottest of the four.

I bought an H80 to go with the chip and was wondering if I have an issue with seating rather than the chip as the bit tech review states that 4.8 should be achievable with a good quality air cooler, I realise not all chips are the same but 4.5 is my absolute ceiling at the moment.

    Anyone else trying?

What fans have you got attached to the radiator of the H80?

To me that sounds about right on your chip, for anything above that you might need full on watercooling, although even that might not do it with these chips.

The reason I say this is because 1.24v is an awful lot of Vcore for these chips. Hence if that's what you need to get it stable at 4.5Ghz I can't imagine what you would need to do anything more than that stable.

The standard corsair fans that came with it. 2x120mm in a push pull config.

@trashcanman - Yeah, I had to bump the vcore up slightly more as well for 100% stability, makes me wonder if its something else that's my issue.

Them ivy bridge chips run hot. About 20 degrees hotter than the Sandy bridge ones.

Apparently it's to do with what they use between the chip and the IHS

Certainly not worth it unless you have some serious cooling hardware already..

I was planning on getting the six core of IB. I hope something is changed to improve matters on the enthusiast version

I have both a 360 and a 240 rad both cooling my CPU only currently and I'm still not interested... my 2500K can be pushed to 5Ghz stable so I see no reason.

However if you are about to start a new build then it is completely understandable..

Ah! My paranoia was right! It was a good choice for me to buy some scythe gentle typhoon fans :D

Edit: Think you should change the fans to something more decent.

20c hotter at 4.5ghz on the same volts i think not

you just got a bad chip

most people are hitting 4.5ghz on 1.2 or below vcore

the standard corsiar fans are useless for reference and using proper fans would reduce your temps 10-15c

on an h100 bit tech were hitting 100c at 5ghz at 1.4 volts

ivy needs water to hit 4.5 ghz and above and stay within a decent temp level

That was the plan, not going to make a firm decision until I see the thermal performance..

One of those face palm moments just occurred to me when I was leaving my room and caught glimpse of the sticker of one of the fan's.

My fans are currently set up as:

    ---> [Rad] <---

Sooooo... will sort this when im home and see what it does for temps, any ideas how much it will drop them :duh:?

You had me worried then, I thought I would be unable to OC mine at all on air but hopefully those temps will come down once the fan direction is fixed :D
