I just started to over clock my XP 2000+ today and so far got up to 1745MHz at 138fsb But if i go to 139 i loose all stability and crash Is there anyway around this? I tryed upping the multipler but it wont go any higher ?
the xp is more then likely locked so u cant raise multiplier.... the crashing is most likely due to heat....get a decent cooling system and im sure you can take it higher...or could be one of the parts not liking such a high fsb....
You may also need to increase the VCore (i.e. the voltage to the CPU) When overclocking CPUs tend to ud=se more power and by doing this you are supplying that!
then you might have to increase the ram core voltage if it gets stuck loading windows. You could however get your chip unlocked so you can change the multiplier not just the fsb or you can realise, hey! my chip is already very very fast i don't need to go any faster. But you won't do that will you .
a CPU is never fast enough ive got a silver mountain 2 comming in the next few days so ill unlock my cpu when i put it on. Can somone tell me where i have to draw on with pensil to unlock ? My quest for higer 3d mark scores continues .
As with the FSB and all overclocking, the voltage should be raised little by little until the system becomes stable! As ever though, don't push it too far, and be aware that the limit for your chip may have been reached!
Unlocking the XP is more complicated than the ol' pencil trick. You have to seal some of the bridge gaps before you can close the bridges. I just found a site that actually has a video showing the process. With the XP2100, AMD when a step further trying to foil unlockers, the moved/changed some of the bridges. I saw an article where someone figured out that you could make the 2100 post as a 1600 and then you could overclock it but the unlock process they used was scarry . They used a dremel engraver to cut some of the bridges.
maby ill just stick where i am (1750MHz) i can get 3d mark scores of 8100 ish so i think its not realy worth the hastle or unlocking I think i'll just consentrate my mental efforts in to modding my lian li
The early 2000 chips were very poor overclockers because it was at the limit of AMDs yields at the time....only the very best CPUs were badged as 2000s, and to begin with there were very few that made the grade. If they are locked at 133x12.5 then they wont go much higher because they are near the limit of the design process anyway. Newer chips go higher because AMD tweak the manufacturing process so as get cpus capable of the higher speeds more often in a batch, and also this means the cpus will go a little higher anyway as the process is improved. If you really want to hit the high fsbs with an XP2000, you really have to unlock it. The early ones didnt go much over 1667 at all, so unlocking it will give u a faster fsb (and better performance) even if the overall speed isnt that much greater.
