I've just put my Antec Aria system together and gone into BIOS to see what's happening and I find a CPU temp of 66C . My Zalman 7000B-Cu has been installed as per instructions and has been taken off, thermal paste replaced and then put back on and screwed down as far as I can go. I don't know if it's a broken temperature reading as I don't have Windows installed yet and so can't compare with anything else. It does feel hot in there, but it's a small space with lots of hot stuff in there. The motherboard temp is sitting at about 30C, so it's not so bad, but surely a 3400+ shouldn't be hitting these temps? I can't see how the Zalman can be screwed down anymore as I can't physically do so. The backplate is on properly and so it should be making contact. I have just noticed that the BIOS claims the CPU fan and system fan are not moving at all, even thought they are connected to the headers and are spinning furiously . I have heard of this sort of problem before, so could it be a BIOS problem? Perhaps I need to flash to a newer BIOS to fix the problem? I mean, it claims to be very hot, but a CPU can't start at 60C and go up to 66C within seconds of reaching the BIOS, can it? I'm having a look at the website and seeing if I can find a newer BIOS. Any help would be greatfully appreciated . [EDIT]http://www.msi.com.tw/program/support/bios/bos/spt_bos_detail.php?UID=624&kind=1 BIOS Rev 3.1 claims to have fixed the incorrect CPU temp. However, I don't know which one I have and my monitor won't turn on quick enough for me to catch it . Can you tell by sitting in the blue screen BIOS menu?
Feel the heatsink after running your pc for while to see if it feels hot. If it does then it is doing its job. I wouldn't worry too much about it at this stage. Get windows installed and see if it is stable. Then worry about a newer bios. Even if the reading of 66 degrees is accurate, it is only on the edge of being too hot IMO.
