Hi, it's been a while since I used these forums too busy modding!

Anyway, I purchased SuSE Linux 8.2 Professional - from thier website. Just to find that some guy on e-bay was selling copies under GPL for £8 inc. P+P! :waah: :duh:

Anyway, I was wondering if there are any really good P2P software available for me to download for Linux. By P2P I mean software such as Kazaa etc. I used a :search: but I didn't really know how good these are in real life.

    Thanks for your help!

    hello
i just bought a copy of SUSE 8.2 of ebay but a couple of the packages from the cd's are damaged:grr: i am not over 18 though and i had to ask some kind sould to buy it for me and i do not want to complain through them...
anyways...i have a variety of P2P software but my favourite is winmx running under wine... it was very easy to set up and even places a desktop icon.
umm and...Google is your friend :D

Why didn't you just download it and burn it?

Some people just don't get it. :sigh:

Anyways, eDonkey 2000 has a Linux variant, although I have no idea if it works well, nothing named eDonkey is ever touching my computer. Otherwise there used to bea Linux version of Kazaa, but it's been dead for quite sometime, perhaps you could ifnd it somewhere out on the net.

Oh and cheers getting Wine working. That's a difficult task. Especially WineX.

Are you saying that I missed something or that people don't realize it's free?

Oh, and I think winex is 10,000,000x harder to setup than wine, mostly because if you're not paying all you can do is cvs = not n00b friendly :duh:

    Not realizing it's free.

Also the CVS and the binaries are equally as useless :D

I've used both, and the only thing I could get running was Windwos Solitaire. Otherwise everythign else just crashed and burned.

And Wine is so useless it's not worth the drive space it's printed on.

If you sign up at transgamer can you get rpms or tarballs? Or is it more like "Pay us $20 and we'll tell you how to install our software!"?

You get pre-compiled Redhat based RPMs. They install much better, but for actually working, it's still ike trying to **** a rock.

Spiffy. Has anyone gotten winex to work? Ever? Seriously... I see the forums, but I don't think 80% of them have gotten it to work either... :p

Both my friend and I have gotten to work, just not well. Not well at all. :p

I believe it was dakar or bee that got it to work on here as well.

    Getting WineX to work

Just one thing to say, Mandrake Linux 8.1 Gaming Edition! Comes with WineX and a copy of the sims, installs WineX for you! For how much it costs you can just buy it for the copy of The Sims and then download a newer distro and to an upgrade. Worked for me and I'm a Linux cabbage! Been using Windows for years and only just moved to Linux!

I'd rather not pay for software... MUCH MUCH MUCH MUCH less for mandrake. If any other distro came with winex installed and it ran half-decent, I'd pay for it. But not mandrake. See kargin's sig.
    **** Mandrake

Personally I don't care for buying Linux stuff. it's open source and supposed to be free. Those that charge for it are nothing but frauds.

The only Linux related thing I bought was the Redhat Linux Bible. An invaluable resource, especially when an internet connection isn't available ;)

And in case any of you can't scroll up, look down. :D

Mandick I won't even waste teh bandwidth or time to downlaod it, much less burn it on my 50 cent CD-Rs. :miffed:

PS. There was one exception.... Xine wont play my DVDs so I downloaded the rpms for Ogle and installed that, made my own icon and set it up to launch Ogle. Works great now! Ugly GUI but GUIs aren't everything!
