    I want to make my Pentium 3 500mhz look cooler (no pun intended) so I want to make a shroud around it and put 2 60mm fans on the ends of the Slot 1 heatsink, so that air is sucked in one side and blown out the other. Trouble is, the heatsink for the processor isn't designed for cross-ventilation, so I want to put a P2 heatsink on it. My questions are, will this P2 heatsink + 2 60mm fans be enough to cool it? The P2 heatsink is nearly twice as big, and will have 2 fans instead of the 1 the P3 has now. Also, connecting it will be trouble, so is it possible to put the P3 into the P2 mounting base? The pictures will explain more;

    ^ The P2 processor is mounted inside a metal housing that contains metal pins which connect to the other side of the housing. Both the P2 and P3 boards have these same holes. The P2 metal piece allows the heatsink to attach without coming into contact with the actual processor. Also, the P3 does not have a metal heatspreader, it has an open chip. Could this be a problem? Could it be damaged by the P2 casing?

    The normal P3 heatsink has few horizontal airflow passages, because its fan doesn't require them.

    *EDIT*
    Slight problem. I tried swapping out the P2 board for the P3, and it seems the P2 is about 1mm taller than the P3, and the P3 won't touch the metal backing to the heatsink. I do have another idea though on how to connect the heatsink to the P3, using the original P3 heatsink mounting components.

    I hope the sudden interest in the p3 isnt due to me making keychains out of both. But actually my whole keychain escapades were in response to putting a p3 into a pII casing because I liked the pII case better. Ended up with a pIII and a pII that I hardly felt like reassembling.

    and dont you just hate how mspaint distorts whatever text you put onto like a .jpg and yet preserves the .jpg just fine?

    No, the P3 just needs a makeover, but now unfortunately I have to do a makeover on the P2, because of complications (and me slipping with a screwdriver and removing a SMD resistor from the backside of the proc. Whoops.) no harm done though, it appears it was just for the temp sensor, as now the PC is saying there is no proc temp sensor.

    And yes, I hate paint for that too, but thats why they invented .PNG

    Well its not about the fact anyone couldnt at least muddle through using a more advanced and free program to edit graphics. It is just that Start > run > mspaint is so easy and its already there.
