Hi. I'm planning to upgrade my graphics card from a Nvidia 8600 GTS to a Nvidia 285 GTX. I don't have to much knowledge about compatibility or things of that sort, so could anyone tell me weather i could stick with my MSI P35 Diamond (http://eu.msi.com/index.php?func=proddesc&maincat_no=1&cat2_no=170&cat3_no=&prod_no=1214) Or would i have to upgrade it to something else? Thanks.
you'll be fine with your current motherboard, only thing to watch out for is that the nvidia GTX285 among other GTX2xx series cards require the new 8 pin PCI-E power connector.
Wow, thanks for the quick answers, good to hear i don't have to replace my motherboard Also, i just checked and I have a 8pin connector from my power, so i should be fine with that.
Dont confuse an 8 pin motherboard connector with the new 8 pin PCI-E connector look at the image carefully, and you can see a difference
I thought PCI-E 8-pin and EPS 8-pin had different moldings on the pins? Of course, I suppose it's easy to go "why won't this go on?!" force it, and then have whole new worlds of fun. And toasted electronics.
For some reason that image from a few posts up dosen't seem to work, so i don't get the difference between the pins yet. However, for my 285gtx, I'm planning to get a OCZ Stealth XStream 600W PSU (http://www.technooutlet.com/eflte2680.html)
