Why can't the add bar run the width of the forum horizontally right at the top, they don’t currently scroll down the page so there is no loss of visibility to the users, this would allow the forum to return to full width? And still keep the adds on every page.
Paid memberships might not work out that good. For example, no matter how great this community is (and it is really great) I am NOT going to pay for access so I can just post a few comments. I'll just stop visiting this site. That way they would also lose any revenues from ads they might get due to me. Ads are fine as long as they are not too obtrusive. Sometimes, rarely, they are even helpful.
Have to say i think people are a little sworded when it comes to memberships, after all you can't expect webmasters and website owners in general to run sites and provide excellent content and support with no return. Bit-tech has now grown to a community that requires a lot of time and hardwork for the people who are directly responsible for maintaining and running it from day to day, and those people "deserve" to make a living from their efforts in my opinion. If you dont like the ads but your not willing to pay to continue the excellent service the B-T team provides then i find that rather childish, its like a kid saying i want the cool toy but i'm not going to do anything for it. I think a non-ad pay version of the site is an excellent idea in short, i'm not saying pay to post as someone here suggested, i'm saying pay for no-ads. And if you dont like that idea then just be happy that B-T can continue with revenue derived from their ad services. I for one would definetley pay £20 a year for a no-ad version of the site to offset their ad losses, and of course there are other things that could be thrown into a membership other than no-ads as other sites have done in the past. To draw a paralell to other sites which run memberships similar to this there is Jolt gaming as one example, no-ads + forum extras such as avatars, and many other sites in the UK alone which run similar systems to allow their viewers the choice between ad and no-ad revenues, aswell as much larger sites such as the UGN/GSI network with its $80 a year sub which i am more than happy to pay for the excellent services they provide, this is the top end of the pile of course as you have access to multiple sites including fileplanet, all of which still run with ad scheme and no-ad pay schemes to give people the choice. I think that now this discussion has arrived on the forums it only proves the point to an extent. B-T could continue with just ads and not worry about a no-ad pay scheme of course as have many other sites in the past. But i would like to have the option of a no-ad site and i certainly wouldnt mind paying for it. But when the content B-T provides even with ads is so top notch it's not something i'm too worried about for now, maybe in the next stage of the B-T timeline . Keep it up lads, hope the next stage of the B-T timeline goes aswell as this one has, loving the new site layout . EDIT: And dont use ad-blockers!
People seem to be confused on one thing as they post all this doom and gloom about pay sites...no one is asking BitTech to pay to comment. It's a free site, but those who want the ads to go away can pay for the extra screen real-estate to support the site. I don't think anyone said anything about "pay to comment" or "only subscription members can...(insert some act here)" Anyhow, it's not really an important point, I guess. It is what it is, now.
i think its wrong to pay for a site full of info. and they need to make the money come from some where as it cost to have a site and even more to have one as good as this and no ass hole at the top makin life a bitch like 3GM. this forum is the best please for info and other stuff so keep the ads and make have a give use some money if ya want thing just to help things out you never know the more money they get the less ads they need to keep the land of bit-tech up thank you thank you
The reality is that most poeple just aren't hoing to pay for web sites as a general rule, our company has done research in exaclty the area of what a consumer will and won't pay for. No one likes adds, but until someone comes up with a better idea, it's the only way that people are going to make money with web sites (even if it only to cover the cost of running servers, etc). Ideally, in the future, when you pay for your internet service, there should be a small additional charge that is distributes to all web sites that are hit from your computer (providing they have no advertising), based on time browsing, but doubt we will see this any time soon.
that would be great, but I doubt it'd happen because of the way that the internet is set up - there's no central point on the web, and thus there's not much chance of the money ever reaching us.
hey, bit-tech COULD just remove the signiture function and put an ad bar for every users signiture. could be an option for what each user would advertise for. LOL
lol, i bet if you did that even for 6 hours, 3/4 of the forum would **** themselves. would be quite a laugh tho.
