Hi I bought Painkiller: Universe for £4.82 which I thought at the time of purchase was a bargain. It comes with Painkiller: Black Edition and Painkiller: Overdose Painkiller: Black Edition includes the original game, Painkiller and it's expansion pack Battle out of Hell. Now the problem I have is that the game [Painkiller] when first installed is patched to 1.6 and it runs fine with no problems on Windows 7. I have tried to playing the game online as I have heard that this game is great fun online and competitions have been done on this game. When trying to connect I get the message Cannot connect upgrade to 1.64nv2 I looked on the Dreamcatcher forums and it suggested that I download the patches from [Gamershell] 1.61 and install it. and then Install 1.62 and 1.64 as these are optional. I downloaded all 3 patches. I tried running the game after the first patch 1.61 and it says insert CD into drive (which it already is) and the game fails to launch. I then patch it with 1.62 and I get the same messages and and then 1.64 and also the same messages. After googling this problem, I couldn't get anywhere but then I found out that Dreamcatcher have had some problems with some peoples machines where it had failed to verify the CD in the drive and they released a "cd-fix". I found the so called patch on gamershell installed it but it brought up some other error and it did not launch. I then tried contacting dreamcatcher themselves about this problem and I have registered on their forum site with a username but I can't post any messages on the forums until the account has been activated. I was told I would receive an activation email (which I didn't) I waited a couple of days but still no activation email. I contacted the site through the Contact Us page on their forum explaining the situation that I need the account activated but still no answer a few days later. I looked up UK Support for the game on the README file and there was an email for uktechsupport@mindscape.com. I sent the email explaining the situation about no-cd problem and they have not responded. Now, am I the only one with this problem or has anyone else had a similar experience. I know that £4.82 is not a great deal amount but If I pay for a game I expect it to work and if it doesn't to at least get some support. Should I not of bought the retail version of the disk and bought the game from gog.com or steam and relied on gog's or steams customer support?
I managed to find a crack that did work from gamecopyworld but the problem now that I get is when I choose Multiplayer->Join A Game->Internet I can't see any servers whilst when I was running the game with patch 1.6 I can see the servers. This is the no-cd from gamecopy world that I am using Painkiller: BOoH v1.64 [ALL] No-CD/LAN Fixed EXE 15-09-2005 Cr@ck-IT
If I use this other no-cd from gamecopy world Painkiller: BOoH [ENGLISH/SPANISH] No-CD/Fixed Image I get this dll error The procedure entry point ?Tick@PhysicsEngine@@QAE_NM_N@Z could not be located in the dynamic link library Engine.dll
I also tried this one Painkiller CD FIX UPDATE [ENGLISH] Fixed EXE and i get the error message Script Error [string "../Data/LScripts/Main/Definitions.lua"]:899: attempt to call global 'IsMPDemo' (a nil value) Press "Retry" to Debug. I Pressed retry and I get this [string "../Data/LScripts/Main/Cfg.lua"]:899: attempt to call global 'GetCDLabel' (a nil value) I hit retry and it goes back to the first one
