First off i just wanna say hi to everyone on these boards, as ive been lurking them for quite awhile and i finally joined cause im starting a full mod project ( nothing is being divulged at the moment, but i will post a work log once i start on it hehe ) and have a question. Say i wanted a paint job on aluminum to make it look like wood ( professional job, not something im gonna do myself ) how much increase in the thickness am i looking at ? Its not about clearance issues , its just for future refference for myself
N00bie replying to another n00bie! Increasing the post-count.. The paint thickness is heavily dependent from the paint you're using. But supposing you're painting wood patterns this is going to be multiple layers. It's really hard to estimate, but a single layer of sprayed paint is about .1 mm thick. Hand painted varies between .3mm to 1mm. Why don't you try a tape (is it tape or a film or ...) that has wood grain printed on it! Same You would use on covering shelves or making a tacky caravan interior.... Waaay cheaper and you can measure the exact thickness!
welcome to bit-tech, i aint been here long myself. you shouldnt be adding too much thickness to it, it depends how its being done. shouldnt be more than a couple of mm if its paint
