Not looking for a solution, more of an observation.

I'm now writing up my thesis, which involves a lot of image editing. Nothing that requires Photoshop (not that I know how to use it anyway), just inserting labels, cropping etc. So I'm using Paint, the programme of champions!

Thing is, my work laptop has XP on, so I've up until now been using old school Paint. Now, sitting at home, I'm using the new and improved Paint.

There are many things I like about the new Paint; being able to choose a zoom level is brilliant for one as I deal with some large images. However, is it just me or is the selection tool less accurate than it used to be? It seems now that I have to aim slightly to the left and up (or down and right or combinations thereof) to select the right position.

    Anyone else find this?

If you zoom in with Win + "+" key a few times, you notice that their is no shift when you draw.

Even when zoomed into the maximum level, it can be prone to shifting!

the most annoying thing i've found with it, is that you can't do pixel by pixel painting.

The new paint, if you just click on a pixel at max zoom, it doesn't paint it, you have to move the brush around to paint pixels.

Even Paint.net does it, but you can click on a pixel and it seems to increase the alpha value the more you click on it.

Guys... it's just paint. It's not Photoshop.... it's jjuuuuust Microsoft Paint. And ultra primitive picture editor. I am even surprise that even update it after the first Windows.

well, this is the 3rd update from the original paint... if you compare paint from 95 to the one in xp they are identical although with some filetypes and scanner features added. i still remember paintbrush from dos days, which is what paint was licensed from. the biggest change to me in windows 7 is that you have no option to remove it from the windows add remove features.

I personally just use Paint.net which is much better and only a couple of MB.

Looks nice! I'll have to give it a go sometime. Paint is perfect for the moment though!

Paint.net is better at resizing, can deal with layers, and can open a lot more image types than Windows Paint. Its a proper good lil upgrade, especially for free software.

Another Paint.net user here. I find it brilliant for my needs.
Wasn't it supposed to be the version that got bundled with windows but never was?

I was really annoyed with how they changed Paint in 7 (because it appeared they took away functions) but since playing around with it I have to admit it's just as functional and it highlights the more used tools. So prefer it to XP's one now.
