I got a Talon Ghost(Yeah I know it's not the best) for christmas. One of my friends got the same thing too. But me and him already want to upgrade to better guns. But I was searching on amazon.com and found the airsoft guns and I like how they look like the real things(M16, AK47, etc.). So what I'm wondering is whats the diffrence in Paintball and Airsoft? Which ones hurt worse? How painful is airsoft? Which sport is cheaper? What should you look for when you buy a Airsoft Gun? Tell me anything I should know about Airsoft bascially.

    i prefer airsoft personally
    airsoft hurts less than paintball
airsoft is cheaper in the long run (roughly £10 for a bag of 2000ish bb's, so much cheaper than paintballs)
and most airsoft guns run off batteries, dont have to pay for gas (you can get gas powered rifles but they cost a fortune, there are loads gas pistols tho and they're great fun :D)
in an airsoft gun, you want to buy from a decent brand, TM, CA or ICS for AEG's
main difference between the 2 is paintball leaves a paint spot so cheating is harder, airsoft is based on an 'honour system'
you have to trust the people you're playing with to take their hits
airsoft guns are replicas, they look much cooler than the horrible plumbing accident that paintball guns are :p
dont buy the amazon airsoft guns tho, they suck

I prefer airsofting a hell of a lot more to paintballing. Airsofting is a hell of a lot cheaper, espcially in regards to ammo (<£6 for 3700 rounds). Paintballing hurts a lot more, you hardly get any pain from airsofting really.

Airsoft guns fire 6mm plastic ball bearings using air as opposed to gas canisters as with paintball guns. Airsofting is also considered much more tactical and the majority of people wear camo gear and assault vests etc.

In regards to guns stick to Tokyo Mauri for your first one and try and get one that takes a large battery. Most of the guns perform the same so just get the one which you like the most. A good idea is to go to a skirmish and just ask to look at/hold other people's guns to see if you like the feel of them.

edit - hamish beat me to posting :(

    :p
wouldn't agree on the large battery tho, nothing wrong with mini-batt's tbh
just get a couple of them and swap them around at lunch :)
    i love my G36c :D
most sites will do renting too so you can just turn up rent a gun and see if you like it :)

i havent played any airsoft games yet but ive played quite a few paintball games... and ive been shot by my brother a load of times with bb guns.... imo paintballs hurt loads more than bb's even if u wear a load of layers the paintballl still hurts... and yes airsoft costs way less than paintballing...

the only thing i dont like about battery powered bb guns in my experience is that some of the time the bb's dont come out as the motor or what ever is launching the balls doesnt catch them... the same with paintballing but the balls can explode inside the barrell

airsoft is cheaper, and often less fun, if u goto public ones people are always cheating saying its so they get to play for longer!?

the guns don't really seam that cool in airsoft either, as they don't have the right weight feal or sound. Airsoft thou is a LOT LOT cheaper, and hurts less, but paintball is better action.

I personally prefer paintball because its more intense, people don't tend to cheat as much, and people are conservative with their shots (you won't get someone with a m60 just shooting everything that looks almost like its moving).

painball guns look silly, and are a lot harder to handle than a normal rifle (ie if you jump down into a ditch you have to hold your marker carefully, lest the hopper fall off, or the ammo door open.)

but either beet having to do work on friday :waah:

that amazon one is a pos thats why its so cheap, it really is crap

been paintballing and airsofting, definately more cheating in paintball, but then there did seem to be an extradinarily large number of assholes at the paintball place and everyone at the airsoft site was really nice :)

    real G36c weighs 2.80kg unloaded
    airsoft G36c weighs 2.77kg unloaded
so when loaded the weight difference is bigger but its not that far off tbh
yea the electric guns sound crappy but the gas ones sound much better :D

dont get many people with m60's, they cost about £800 :p
but i know what you mean and its generally frowned upon so doesnt happen too much

suppose it just comes down to personal preference really but prefer airsoft mostly because the guns dont look so ridiculous :p

edit: the other thing is when i went airsofting we played respawn so, unlike when i was playing paintball, when you get hit you just go back to a specific place and then rejoin the fight. i think that made people much more likely to take their hits, people are less likely to cheat if they know they can just come back again and not have to wait for the next game which really sucks

airsoft guns with a metal body kit feel and weigh close to the real thing.

airsoft is for realism and decent honest people

paintball is for tem building, or wippers.

    imho :D

as for the m16 on amazon, its a springer so not automatic. also it will be pooper than poop.

You really do have to pay and get a marui or the like to get a decent gun with hopup a fast motor and good gearbox.

As for the earlyer comment about the motor not feeding properly. The motor does no feeding so you either have a problem with the magazone your using or the feeding tube, or its a a cheapo ;)

    edit:
or its cheap miss-shapen bb's. you should only use 0.2g or above in a hopup gun, a decent make too so they are nice and round without an edge from the mould. i like elite's bio degradable bb's myself
you get what you pay for.

yeah I thought that gun would be crappy because one M16 is around $250 and this one was $40 I figured there was something wrong.

I'm not worried about cheating because it's just me and my friend and like a 40 acre area. That is one downside to airsoft because me and him use a point system(2 for chest, 1 for arm and legs and 0 for head and well you know) but with airsoft we would probably just shoot and each other for fun. Can someone sompare the pain of paintball to something? We have yet to play paintball because of the weather. We are using cheap pump action Talon Ghosts. We will be wearing long sleeves and pants. It's like 40 here now so we will have lots of layers.

Paintballing defo for comparing bruises afterwards thats always funny :D + paintball is good for just general "fun"

airsoft is more tactical and and always of decent people, though when ever ive gone there is always 1or2 people who "think" there ex military lol who seem to take things over the top, or u get the 14 year old who think its good to drop to the floor and scream thinking they acctauly been shot ... same happens with paintball I guess

imo id like airsoft more ( mainly because of the realism) but if i just want to have a laugh then its paintball

yer the guns i was talking about not feeding properly was a cheapo "mini" electric gun..

one thing i like about airsoft is that u can get various ammo... u can get standard 6mm plastic balls, you can also get metal balls and you can get mini 6mm paintballs :D

In paintball you dont get as much differnce between a £200 marker and an £800 one as you do in airsoft.

unlucky bunch to be playing paintball with tbh! Might of just happend to me on the two ocasions i've been airsofting.

Airsoft guns sound wimsickal, at least paintball markers look it too!

take ur word about the m16, never hadnled a real one, but the SA-80 felt NOTHING like i remebered the real one, same went for the glock handgun. (thou the gas blow back was a nice fealing, again not real, but it was nice, kinda gives the power trip!).

I think i just like the splat sound :)

Raising a new point, what are peoples favourate play modes?

i always hated torso hits only count, until i played it with my hall at uni (paintballing) then i saw with newbs, its awsome fun, when playing speedball (mud + barrles + a tennis court sized thing, run from one side to other without been hit) i just kept using my extremities to locate where people were hiding :D

But i prefer any hit counts, cheaper to play!

the £800 m60 is £800 because its rare as hens teeth not because its good, in fact its **** :D
my £200 g36c + a drum mag is better than the top M60 (hell just use hi-caps they hold 470 rounds anyway :p)

yea was kinda unlucky, they were a right bunch of ****s, sneaking up behind people to shoot them from about 3" away, continually shooting even after someone has accepted the hits etc asshats

only airsoft SA-80 on the market is the Academy one, and its god awful, most people that buy them get a famas as well and put hte famas internals in the sa80 :)

airsoft guns sound like a sewing machine on steroids to me :D

i have a KWA metal slide Glock 19, supposedly when loaded weighs the same as a half loaded real G19, felt pretty light to me too but oh well :p
metal slide is great too as it makes a cool chink chink noise when it cycles instead of hte crappy thud thud plastic noise

the other thing was that i found the paintball guns horribly inaccurate, maybe they were just crappy markers but it was almost impossible to hit anyone unless they were 6 feet away :\

last time i looked there wasn't a proper airsoft version of the sa80 (exluding spring + custom builds)

My airsoft m4-a1 is actually heavier than the real thing with the batteries in.
