    hello everyone,

im planning on spray painting my cosmos S case. ive watched and read enough tutorials to mentally make me insane. and believe im ready to get on with it.

how ever, dont know if im been dumb. or my minds so dead from reading tutorials, but i cant seem to find anywhere that does the paint im after.

have any of you guys tried your own painting? where do you get your paint from?

all i can find on the tinterweb is PLasti-kote and they dont do the shade of mettalic blue i want. what im after is more of a electric mazda blue. but the only colour halfords does is mazda red :S
would prefer not to have custom paint, prefer to just have it "off the shelf" sorter thing.

any webs sites would be a great help.

    cheers

For my Cosmos S (see sig), I used Halfords paint and primer.

@ Ph4ZeD - thats looking good, seems like you got a good finish to it. did you personaly find it easy to do or was it abit challenging? because although ive read enough tutorials on the subject, it looks easyish. how did you find it? no doubt ill screw mine up lol.

il have to have a venture into halfords this weekend to have a look rather than looking online, their website doesnt really help much to be honest.

I did find it easier than I was expecting. I was afraid of messing up the case as a Cosmos S isn't cheap to replace - its also worth pointing out that before my mod I had no DIY experience at all, so stuff like sanding and painting I had never done before. I just took it one step at a time - did the easy bits like the front mesh panels. Sanded them down, one coat of primer, then one coat of the paint.

what about the plastic parts? did you sand them down and primer aswell? or did you do it another way?

thanks by the way, tutorials dont really tell you how to do plastic areas. only the metal case.

For plastic you still need to prep it properly! I would suggest getting some flexible plastic primer, as this will flex when the plastic pieces do. As for sanding etc do as it says on the primer can :)

For me I've always primered both metal (with regular primer) and plastic (with plastic primer) after 'keying' in the surface with a fine abrasive paper.

For my first attempt at spray painting a case (regular car paint will do) I didn't do this and the paint scratched off easily.

Once you've got the case primered and left to dry and harden you should be able to test it to make sure that doesn't scratch off easily, if it's OK then you can be confidant that your colour will adhere to it.

Then it's all about patience and what sort of finish you want. If you're aiming for an ultra smooth, glossy finish as close to mirror finish as you can with this sort of paint then wet and drying each each coat with 1200 grade paper will be needed. It takes time and as I say, a lot of patience.

If you rush the spraying and try and put too thick a coat on, it will run!
