Hi guys...wanted to know if anyone tried painting acrylic with paint. Someone along the lines of Macro Black but with a flat black finish. Could i still use acrylic based car paint spray? Or is there something else I could use? I really don't need it to be see through, just a dark flat black. I was thinking more on the lines of lightly sanding the surface and adding some type of primer to it. Then when that dries painting on top of the primer. Any ideas on how I can do this would be greatly appreciated :D

I've done some test pieces of acrylic painted with Vinyl Dye. It seemed to really work well, very durable on the surface. I was 'painting the back' for a super-gloss appearance, not at all like what you're doing.

I have to ask, though, why not order the acrylic in the color you want?

It wouldn't be for a side window so i don't want it to be see through. But i wanted that flat smooth finish from acrylic. Vinyl dye sounds pretty interesting, would you get that from a car automotive shop too? Ultimately this would be the "front" of a PC case. Sorta like the new enermax cases that have acrylic on the front..thats the look I'm looking for.

Yeah, you threw me by saying flat black though. No matter what flavor of black you use, if you view it through the acrylic, it's supa glossy and looks hot. If you have the painted side out, it just gets scratched to oblivion.

Don't have any pics of the test piece, but I got a little deeper looking color by roughing up the surface to be painted with 600 grit or above sandpaper. The dye was quite resistant to being scratched too.

You're a US'er, right? try Pep Boys or Auto Zone or anyplace that does auto paint.
