I was wondering if it would be a good idea to paint a monitor with just simple krylon fusion (no sanding, just spraying it). If so how should i prep it?

If not i have several guides in how to just paint it with something else.

I should look fine. It will have the same texture as the original...just a different color.

Might I suggest Vinyl Dye though?

Vinyl dye needs almost no prep, it comes in a paint can, and you can apply it liberally, as it will not bubble, and streak too bad. Its some pretty sweet stuff, just leave it outside to cure or you will stink your house up REALLY bad.

Almost no prep? Well what would i have to do to prep it other than cleaning the monitor off?

Edit: Also, what brand should i buy? I live in the USA so it would have to be in stores here as well..

And would i have to buy primer/clearcoat as well?

Just make sure the surface is clean, and you're fine. No primer or clearcoat is required.

Duplicolor is the only brand I've seen in the US. I found mine at AutoZone, as the Home Depot near me didn't carry it.

Krylon Fusion is brand I'd recommend...had great luck w/ it...never tried the Duplicolor version...but I'm sure its much the same...

As the name implies...the Krylon isn't a basic paint persay...it actually bonds to the plastic on a molecular level.....much the same Vinyl paint does..

That way its much more resistant to scratches...bumps...dings..etc..

Also makes painting alot easier...since it requires little to no prep at all..just make sure the "MEGA" Dust Bunnies are done away with....other than that...paint like you had already laid down a primer...

I suppose you could use a primer...but that would only interfere w/ the fusion...since its another layer added onto the existing plastic...

The only problem I've found w/ the plastic paints is the selection in color...very few choices...only your basic colors..RGB Y W Blck
Vinyl has quite a bit more selection in color...but you may need a few more preparations....

    I've found Krylon at Walmart/Home Depot/Sherman Williams/etc...just call around

Check out your local hardware store. Went to lowes and as Cecil-San said, they only had R,G,B,Black. But at my local (now owned by ACE) there were cases and cases of all sorts of colors. They had every color under the sun and even had colors in satin, flat, high gloss, etc. If people need special colors i can get them and send them to you (US only). The cans are $5 Bucks + Shipping and I can get alot of colors.
