Well, i've been using "Convert X to DVD" which does a good job of it, problem is that the poor thing shreds my menus... So essentially, what started as perfect PAL disks now look as cheap NTSC garbage... is there a program that'll just take the disks in one side, and spit them out recoded on the other (720x576 -> 720x480, 25 -> 29.97 etc)? Thanks for the help guys... and can we NOT do it the IFOEdit way? Thanks again.
if you can find DVDShrink, it should be able to do the job for you. it's a friendly version of IFOEdit and as well as recoding the movie lets you leave things untouched, and/or completely remove other things like audio tracks and bonus features. it got hit with the lawhammer awhile back but i'm sure *cough* it's available somewhere *cough*
Yea, i've a copy kicking around but the question is how... there's no real options or such to re-encode/modify the IFOs... so am i missing something?
uh, what exactly are you trying to do? DVDshrink will just let you insert the DVD, say 'yeah that that that that, not that, recode the movie to fit this size, OK go' isnt that what you want?
Not so much; The re-sizing, DVDShrink does wonderfully. The flicks are in PAL, and i need a program to poop em out in NTSC, Menus and all.
... are you sure you actually need to do that? almost all video equipment these days supports both standards. EDIT: guide: http://www.eggshellskull.com/pal2ntsc/
Hm. "friendliest" way i've found is to point vob-blanker at it, and have it do the work of IFOEdit (12 titles per disk *shudder*) Considering that i'll be dropping in resolution, that should be fine, i just hope the jerkiness doesn't appear, but then again, it's expected. If this falls through, i suppose i'll point DVDSanta at it.
On a side note: Alas, i do. Our front DVD player doesn't like anything short of NTSC, and unfortunately, though our main player does, it decides to have "skips" in the audio every few seconds. Damnit.
Hmm, even the £15 (about $33 CA) DVD players over here play NTSC and PAL dvds. Also: http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=80559
Strange. Perhaps our el-cheapo (but very featureful!) player is starting to show some age. Then again, it doesn't help that the one in the front is going on 7. Shame that converting is such a pain, but considering you have to recode, deinterlace, resize (or crop) and such the entire disk, it's somewhat understandable. *ninja-ly edit* Thanks for the help on this one guys... hopefully i'll have it soon. Really, i'd use Convert X to DVD as it works like a demon's charm, if it only didn't shred menus
cant you use convertX to do the main body of the film, then just attach the vobs that hold the menus back on after? or.. download the NTSC version of the film?
and what's wrong with torrents? you own the film already, i doubt people are going to turn up at your house with pitchforks and burning effigies.
Torrents kill the web connection, and i've got usenet access, soo. I just gave up on some menus; and i use a combination of convertXtoDVD (when i need crappy little menus) and DVDSanta (stubborn files)
