Does a 896mb Pailt GTX 275 still have some life in it? Im planning to put a half decent GPU in my 2nd PC. The purpose of this will be for - Occasional gaming (eve online, total war, audiosurf, dragon age, BF BC2 etc) - Blue-ray playback - Web surfing - Image / website editing Im fed up of carting my main rig (which is huge) around for lans. Just wondered if this card is a worthy 2nd hand purchase that will last a little while?
I'm using a 275 (would prefer to be runnning a 570 though) and it's running everything I can throw at it at 1920x1200, the only thing that sort of struggled was Just Cause 2 with the occasional dip below 25fps when there was a lot of action going on. Crysis with everything on max is a joke mind but thats to be xpected and although I have metro 2033 I've yet to get round to playing it.
It depends on how much for. A GTX275 is still a decent card, and will do well enough in most games to play at native resolution (assuming it's 1920x1200 or below) at medium - high settings. Especially in a LAN box, where most LAN games are not going to be over demanding to run. If you're looking at ~£50 then go for it. If it's more like £100, then forget it, a new GTX460 1GB isn't much more.
Cheers guys. Its £75. But i think £70 is fairer in my opinion. Its boxed with 6 months left on warrenty. It will be for a 22" 1680 x 1050 monitor
Pretty sure it will play almost anything maxed out at that res, my previous monitor was 1680x1050 and I had no issues with anything. £70 is about right, if I had the extra to buy a 570 you could have my XFX XXX version for that price but I'm stoney
Sounds about right. It'd be worth checking what else you can get for the price - a 4890 should be available for a little less, and they trade blows across most games. Another alternative would be a cheap second hand GTX460 1GB, though I think that might be pushing it a bit to find for £75.
It ran everything I could throw at it on 1680x1050, I was mainly playing steam games but I don't think I ever saw L4D2 drop below 100fps (When I had Vsync off, I kept it off thanks to horrible tearing with my monitor)
I think it should suit my needs very well. It will also be output to a 40" TV at 1080p, but that will just be for desktop stuff, web browsing, winamp visualisations and audiosurf
When I played L4D2 on my 1080p TV it still held much higher than 60fps on full. It might not be able to play the latest games on full, but if you don't mind knocking off some of the fancier settings it'll hold its own.
Given that my Q6600 with an 8800GT can handle the games in that list that I have (BF BC2, Eve and Total War) you should have no problem though you probably won't be able to stick the settings on high for some games.
I have a 260 I am only now looking to upgrade it. My 260 kicks arse in games such as Grid, Mass effect 2 , Eve online, Dragon Age Origins etc. However I am just starting to get to the point where the latest games need a little tweaking to play - for example Just Cause 2. I sold a spare 260 on e-bay but that was a while ago. £75 seems a reasonable price but perhaps not a bargain.
