Well I would cherish this card until the day it died.

I don't want to put all my problems on here cause frankly it's embarassing, my internet time is when I can escape and be anyone.

The thought of some student with his rich mummy and daddy sniggering reading all my personal stuff is not on.

It's easy to copy/paste a sob story so you must decide.

 

whilst life has a propensity for shitting on me from great heights with depressing frequency and i would most certainly welcome a card like that [or just one that works]... even if I were to enter and, even more unrealisticly, win I'd probably ship it off to Kayin anyway...

My vote is going to Kayin, of all the people I know of on this forum; He is easily one of the most deserving of the prize. After everything else that seems to have fallen upon his plate recently; some good news would likely be a welcome change from it all.

 

Everything was going great for me up until last May when I was made redundant. I've been looking for work ever since, but every interview I get invited too i end up getting pipped at the last moment by a graduate or a 5+ year expierence fella and I am stuck in the middle with 3/4 years exp.

About September last year I started to learn Blender which uses the cycles render engine now, and Cycles has been built around that of CUDA processing. My old GTX280 is only a bit faster than my aging i7 930.

The reason I am asking for this lovely gift, is that a GTX580 would be used for years not months in my application/use. I am desperately trying to find work and that is based upon my portfolio as an industrial design living in a region that doesn't care for industrial designers. Effectively trapped in a rented property with my wonderful girlfriend living off her income as an adult nurse.

I seldome play world of tanks, but after an hour or so I become deeply depressed that I've got the time to waste on such an activity, but at the same time blasting other tanks take the edge off it all.

Struggling Industrial Designer who has gone freelance due to an evil company promising years of employment only to get cast off and forgetten about, desperately trying to find work by learning new skills daliy.

well that's my story, not so different to others at the moment but at least I'm not blaming the governement for the suitation I am in, it's me that needs to dig deeper somehow. (not fond of the current gov, but it isn't relivant here)


EDIT: I feel bad about ranting about everything going on in my life, I just skipped back to the first page and read Kayin's post and remembered everything. He's winning but only because he is loosing...

 

I know voting isn't till next week, but let's just close this thread and ship it to Kayin. The bloke has been through enough without needing to wait a week to see if he's won.

I dunno folks, Burnout could use it for work. I don't work anymore, so that doesn't seem like I've got as much use for it as he does. If this is about need, he's got me beat in spades.

If this is a contest, let it be fair. Pre-deciding for anyone before all entries are in isn't right. Sure, I want that card. I'd like to have it. But I want the other people to have a fair chance.

I spend too much money on Keyboards. I just bought myself a new bike. My unwillingness to spend money on a new gpu is my own fault, so I feel that any story I could muster up would be a lie - and having read through this thread there is certainly people who could do with it much more than I, and a 5870 isn't really a bad card to start with.

To be honest, I don't so much mind competitions like this. We are after all a nice community of nice people, trying to work out who is having a hard time is not easy, and likewise trying to alleviate some of those problems for someone is a nice thing to do - If you disagree with such a contest, then you probably don't have reason to be entering (Which I know you are not) - T_G is just trying to help someone in need, and I reckon telling everyone why you are in need is sadly the only vehicle for deciding who needs it the most.

 

I don't like voting for things like this.

It feels like I'm judging how depressed someone is, which is wrong. We're meant to offer support to that person, after all...We're one big family right?..

But saying all that, and reading Kayin's posts I really think he deserves it...It gives him an excuse to actually start gaming more! ;D

I didn't get the PM until this evening, after this announcement-we've been out looking at a new trailer to replace this one after we discovered black mold growing in the bathroom. That search is being fruitful, and we are possibly looking at buying in the next few weeks, thanks to my in-laws. It ought to help my wife immensely, as everything here reminds her of him.

Here's to things looking up for all involved, and now I'm gonna have to find something to do to pay this forward-good deeds shouldn't just stop, they should go on and on.

I think I have something here a lot of budding EEs and repairmen should be able to use, I think I'll be doing something like this pretty soon.
