Ive just set up a parallel vfd and well im wondering if its possible to wire up the other parrallel pins to a couple of buttons/keypad that i can also mount on the front of the vfd panel. Something like the matrix orbital inputs?

Im running a noritake itron 2x20 module...

That has some GPI's doesn't it? Just hook up a few PTMs to the GPI's and play around with LCDC for a while.

I think you're thinking about the serial graphics I reviewed... none of the parallel alphanumerics I've looked at have had inputs, and I'm sure the only parallel interfacing lcdc is capableof is simple outputs (with a bass plugin).

You can do this, though I never have ;) I think you'd need to flip the state of the R/W parallel pin when you want to send a press, and just send a ttl 8 bit word using pins 2-9 - but I could be wrong!

im currently running my vfd with a winamp plugin, the one listed in the lcd faq erm...
    Winamp2 plugin

and under the input tab it states that it can use inputs from the parallel port. So i presume there is a way to wire it up...

its been a while since i did any serious electronics, and thats way above my head :p

Think im gonna have to grab a copy of the art of electronics :p
