my parents have consulted me to find a good parental controls application for the family computer because my younger brother (he's autistic) is on it too much and he's looking at no-no's. so what good application can i install to limit use of certain programs on a time schedule? thanks for input, there's too many to look at!

the family computer is not a vista-worthy machine otherwise i'd have done it. it has ****** onboard graphics, (open AGP slot though) only 512MB ram and a celeron.

I think this is a problem bigger then just parental software. Where is the machine located? it should be somewhere that someone can supervise your brother until he can be trusted.

I spent 6 years with my machine in the cellar where my mum could see everything I was doing until I was 18, then I moved out.

Concurred. Location is the best way to limit certain types of shenanigans.

Maybe you need to make it so that the computer is password locked?

this may do it, at a scheduled time the pc will turn off or force apps to close etc. The "lock option" seems like it would do the job nicely, a friend used to use it so he could leave the family pc running overnight without his parents knowing ( they didnt like him doing that) here and theres also programs like net nanny to stop him looking at certain things on the net
