News Parents sue over WoW death

Maybe Leroy Jenkins should sue WoW for having his image tarnished. I suspect that he manages pretty well every day anyway without help though.

 

I want to sue these parents, for being so stupid and therefore causing me to lose 20 minutes of my life writing this story. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to jump out the window, re-enacting a scene from this story.

But seriously. People shouldn't sue a game developer because they had issues with one of their games. If there are millions of people playing it is bound to find its way into the hands of somebody that is a bit unstable.

 

In my opinion this boy was influenced by bands such as Slipknot too.
At least this was what media said in Germany after trying to blame Counter-Strike for a high-school massacre in Erfurt and failed.
Maybe we all should sue somebody for something to feel better. Seems to be quite a trend tho.
But maybe we should sue CNN or BBC or every local newspaper for reporting suicides and stuff as this might influence us/our children/our cats/our whatever in a bad way.

 

Parents should be sued for bad parenting .... Idiots.

 

Chinese kids are slave driven. I teach middle school and high school, and they're at the gated, gaurded, prisons for literaly 10 hours a day. I spend my "fun time" playing WoW and CS 1.5 with them on crap computers with the godly celeron 1.7ghz and geforce 5200. They play the games at minimum settings with painfull fps, watch western movies at terrible resolutions, download hardcore anime, and everything else overworked teenagers do.

The parents are more than close minded. They're living in times of less empathy for they're children then ever in the history of they're country, because of the rapid changing times due to the domination of western culture and capitalism. I've been to places here where they've never seen a foreigner or his digital camera

Honestly, I wouldn't put it past one of my students putting on a Jaguar's amulet of fire and try to kick my *** for giving him extra homework. Extremly imaginative, and compared to Brittish or American kids, easily influenced.

Your post was defiantly an interesting read, I (and I'm sure many other members) would love to read more about your experience with the children you teach. It's good to hear first hand experience of attitudes towards gaming in other cultures without having to wade through the bull.

 

This is ridiculous. If you, as a parent, allow your child to play a game to the point of death, you should be arrested and charged with criminal negligence.

 

I want to sue the car manufacturers because I drove over the speed limit and got a penalty point.

 

I wonder if I spend as many hours playing City Of Heroes if I can sue the company for making me want to save people and fight crime.

 

That I can sorta relate to having only visited a few major Chinese cities. Because of the mass censorship within China and the (sorry) self gratifying education system (but then again, which country doesnt have one??) a lot of the people are extremely easily influenced and just like anyone else with strong views cant imagine it any other way.
You say western culture though, but it's only to an extent where the Chinese make it eastern and have their own way of doing many things.

Thanks for the hospitality. I've observed these forums enough to wanna throw my cents in. Sharp crew here.

I agree they mix their own culture with the new wave. But if you've ever heard real Chinese music(in which the woman sounds like a Chiwawa's chest repeatidly being pressed by a iron spatula), and then you listen to the poppy, fresh American hip-hop beats, the UK-ish Punk bands of rythmic, oy, oy, oy, oy's, and so on. It's just kinda funny how they slap it down with Mandirin lyrics and all of a sudden it's original Chinese music... If you travel, you'll hear every developing or developed country using the new sounds with they're flavor...

Id have to say it really irks me to see how negligent some parents can be. Naturally every culture is going to be differnent in how children are brought up but when you see a case like this where one kid dies and the parents decide to start sueing it makes me laugh at how ignorant and stupid people can be. If kids were dropping dead left and right then maybe they are on to something. Id be nice to see some kind of test that should have to be passed before being allowed to pro-create.

Nature - you are able to add on an avatar after reaching 75 posts. Its more of a privledge (sp?) once you have shown you are an active member of the community contributing something other than useless spam. Id say you are right on your way with constructive participation on topics like these. Check out some of our other boards on the forums and you may find your flavor in no time at all.

I *have* heard tradition chineese music and spent a LOT of time in music shops in china, but we only bought the C-pop with the hottest chicks on the front Because it's virtually the ONLY genre the Chineese allow in mainstream C-pop is FAR FAR better than the american offerings. They do mix Mandarin/(English/Cantonese/Japanese(!!!)) which is interesting and the women are far hotter but they do it in such a way that makes pop actually entertaining. My mate bought a few DVDs and one chick ("Da Da Da" was the song, forgot her name) is the funniest thing ive ever seen. Her music video's are probably the most entertaining ive ever seen
I think, in general, Eastern people are more excitable because they work harder. For example it's not just China, but South Korea and Japan which arent communist and dont have the "problems" of that kind of isolation but the people there still game hard to the point of killing themselves or each other.
