I have always used Partition Magic 8 on Windows XP very successfully. I thought I'd check if it'd work with Vista. The results from googling says it wont. i'm after some software to use for my 250gb laptop drive. I got it from dell and it was preinstalled. What I wqant to do is to have vista on one partition with installed software / apps. I also want to create another partition where I store my documents, photos, music, work etc. The drive is currently organised as this: - Bulk of the drive inc vista. - Backup image of Dell's factory install. - spare unallocated space. (not made into a partition) I used the squeeze thing (in drive management), and applied it to the vista partition, and got the currently unallocated section. I would like to get it like this: - vista and installed software - backup image (factory install) - documents, work, music, photos etc. I also want to resize the partitions, to better distribute the space. Any recommendations for some partitioning software that works with Vista (32bit business version)?
Vista has a partition utility integrated. Easy to use, and does the job correctly. http://vistarewired.com/2007/02/16/how-to-resize-a-partition-in-windows-vista
I initially tried to use the partitioning tool that MS has included with vista. i cannot work out how it (if it can actually) create a new partition. It's what I mean in my OP by shrinking. (using vistas included tools) Cute Partition Manager looks just the job. from looking at the site, it's similar to Partition Magic that I have. I will look at using Cute once I'm at home. otherwise i'll try diskpart (posting this from my mobile at work)
