low level the drive. either a tool from the hdd manufacturer or use a boot disk with OnTrack's Data Eraser.

Doesnt make a difference if he has or not. Packard Bell just brand the case, the components WILL be made by a different manufacturer.

actually, yes. they are crap. i'd take a compaq or a e-machine over one, and that's a major ****ing statement.

just nuke the hdd, and start fresh.

I used to work for packard bell tech support BEFORE you low level format the drive you need to be aware of at least two things.

    1. the install disks you get will no longer work if you low level format the drive.

    2. if your machine is in warrentry you will invalidate any form of help tech support may have been willing to offer thats on any of the components of the machine not just the hdd.

saying all that if your here you probably know what your doing so it sounds like a low level format may be the way to go but make sure you have all the software you need before you do it remember you will not be able to install form the disks you got with the machine from PB

Packard Bell were originally made up of 2nds; eg. components that didnt make the grade elsewhere...

But they have sold plenty over the last 10 years, and have improved sufficiently to be considered merely expensive crap, in the same league as Time & Tiny.

You will also notice that 99% of Packard Bell users also use AOL. Nuff said.
