Four - in May 2000. I got full marks in the theory test as well.

Now that you've passed, don't go and do what I did the day after passing and take a wrong turn on a roundabout and end up going on to the motorway for the first time ever with a huge lorry tailgating you down the sliproad at 56mph. Not a pleasant experience.

Nope, because it is pretty much the same as driving on the road, just another 2 to 5 extra lanes. :eyebrow: - and a bit faster :hehe:

I got 9 minors :S but passed last october!

One of my mate only got ONE minor, don't know anyone who got nowt, however I do know a guy who got a staggering 30something minors. Needless to say he failed.

What exactly qualifies as a minor? Anything more then 2 mistakes seems like alot to me. I know I don't want to be driving with someone who makes 9 mistakes in the time it takes them to do a drivers test. So I'm assuming "minor" must be very very minor mistakes?

An example is not checking your rear view mirror before changing gear or braking..

And a major is 17 minors (some people say its 12, some say its 15, I'm not entirely sure). Another major would be jumping red lights, speeding (although my examiner told me to slow down when I went 40 in 30), crashing and its your fault, driving into a river - it has been done during examinations :hehe:

Passing isn't entirely easy and they are quite strict, which is why Britain has the 2nd best driving in the world, funny that across the channel France is the 2nd worst, with India being the worst.

5 minors a few months ago, I know one person who passed with no minors. You don't start learning until after you've passed IMO

You all should come over to NY State to take a test. Took me less than 10 minutes and the toughest part was parallel parking, but that was just BEHIND a car, there was no 2nd car.. What a joke the test is here.

That was because you've been driving for years and just forgot to renew you license. If you were a pimply faced teen boy they'd have been a lot harder on you.

half right, you dont have to check when going up gears, you do when you go down, i.e engine braking.

Because changing gear slows down the car, a car close behind you might not have enough time to slow down. Bit silly I know, the DVLA will try and create plenty of rules for you to follow.

But who says you have to follow that rule after you pass your test?

After I pased, my driving instructor drove me home, and I tell you, he is a crazy driver, going over the speed limit, not stopping at junctions etc.

When I took my test a while back my instructor grilled me. He was like hitler shouting out orders. He made me plainly nervus especialy since I have been driving for years both with and withought my licence. The only thing he didnt do was make me get on the highway. After the test I drove myself home.

But I do agree with ya sometimes a test around here is a joke considering the type of drivers in NYC. There is always bumper to bumper trafic around here in the city and people get roadrage and cut eachother off or sometimes plainly dont care to pay any atention. Cab drivers are by far the worst seemingly but honestly they may look eratic driving but always they are aware of sorundings and rarely ever do have acidents if ever.

Me personaly I was a bit of a led foot in my younger days when I had just gottem my permit. I always floored the dam thing and had a fiew hair raising experiences. Now ive calmed down and plainly enjoy taking a ride in the big old van. The only car I hated driving was a toyota corrolla during the test. I felt as though I was squished in as my knees would be as high as the air vents and I was scrunched over trying to see out the window as my head hits the celing when sitting strait. Im not even that tall honestly though. 6'2 roughly.

All in all its the same thing. You begin learning to drive after you get your licence and you start to realise what 3000lb of metal can do at 60mph+.

Funny, I just saw an accident happen about 20 minutes ago, a jaguar rammed into the side of a SEAT car, that's only the second time I've actually witness the actual hit in my life, and I think its kinda cool! - But obviously not if someone is going to be seriously injured.

    So, always check round corners.
