I read somewhere that windows passwords are stored as a 4-bit hash in the registry... and isn't there that thing you can do with the win2k CD...

To make a long story short, windows' security holes are your new friends.

You can take a Windows 2000 CD, put it in an XP machine and boot to the recovery console with it. You might then be able to reset the password to the Administrator account.

He may not be yet, just follow this link here. I have used this successfully on 2k on an image where I had forgotten the password that I used as administrator but it should work fine with xp. I just cleared the password and started again.

    LOL

If you boot from another device (2k recovery console, boot floppy) you can ignore the NTFS permissions, and just overwrite the SAM file for you administrator account. If you don't like this idea (you lose some settings) then you can use L0phtCrack to get it back, but you had better have a kick ass machine to run that on.

In short, a quick google will bring up a host of sites such as

i know that if you put mandrak 9.2 on the same drive as windows but a different partition your able to move any file you want from the ntfs partition to the linux one so you can at least get any music or game saves that you want. thats move with no password needed.

OK, there are some suggestions to be getting on with.

I am going to close this now though as it's bordering on the dodgy.
