    :miffed: :grr:

I get really cheesed off when people take their bloody time at the pump.
I always try to fill up, pay (at the kiosk because I have also never seen any pay-at-the-pump...pumps), and drive off as quickly as possible if it's busy.

I also always pull my car into the parking spaces that most filling stations have before paying if I know that I will be looking for something to buy whilst I am making my way to pay.

It's just common courtesy, respect for other people, and common sense.

YOU do not own that petrol station, THE PERSON BEHIND YOU is not the one who charges you 87p a litre.

    FFS FFS FFS FFS

btw, this is not 100% directed at you samuelellis, but to everyone who takes their bloody f*ing time when there is a queue behind them.
Be it at the petrol station, supermarket, or wherever.

EDIT: oh and pay-at-the-pump sounds great, even though it still would take some people ages to fill up and move along.

never used pay@pump coz i dont trust it, the pumps at the local tescos are rubish at pumping petrol (they seem to pump at half the speed of most others) so i dont wanna even see what balls up they make with payments. plus i used to work with one of the women who works at the tescos garage to i go and have a chat to her when shes working.
i usually go fill up in the middle of the day when its quiet so i dont hold anyone up before anyone moans about me being one of those people who hold up the Qs

    Are you stupid or something?

How much effort is it to remember that your car locks itself especially when you're into cars (as I know you are!).

Sounds like you are proud of being 'hated' at most stations - nice one. There's taking your time and taking the piss, and you're doing the latter tbh.

mine does not lock itself automatically, the fuel filter locks when the doors lock but i got into the habit of lockign the doors on the rover when i got out i keep forgetting, the car does not have remote central locking so i check all my doors, everyine in my family checks every door

and considerign i just put myself into debt buying it after the rover finally died i dont think you can blame me for being paranoid as the petrol station i used is not exactly a nice area and cars have been know to go missing off the forecourt

Having a really bad memory and not grasping how your car locks work is one thing...

Doing all that though...and slapping on that arrogant ignorant attitude...TAKES THE BLOODY PISS

pull up to the pump slowly as i am still judging the length of my car

i check the windows are up as i dont want petrol smell in my car and it defeats hte object of locking your doors

bags of crisps are where you queue

i pay in cash and alwasy fill up in £5 incriments so i am out quickly

cd's on my passenger seat so as my headunit front is coming down the seatbelt is going on

as the unit motors the front up the pen is in my hand and the trip meter is written down

glowplugs on, glow plug light out, engine started, trip button pressed and off i go

gees next you will be complaining as i sit at the pump with the engine running for a minute or so (and there is good reason, i drive a turbo, you have to let a turbo sit and idle to allow oil to cool the turbo down before you just shut the engine off)

Random fact: Since owning a car (6 years) I've driven into *ONE* station that would let you pay at the pump, and I've stopped in a lot of petrol stations.

i am an assistant manager at a small (60ish) chain of citgo brand stores namedx country fair here in NW pennsylvania.

most of our stores have pay at the pump. the ones that dont are on a list to be retrofitted shortly. with the exception of one or 2 mom and pop operation in my city, its pretty hard to find a station without pay at the pump.

that being said, i think its a horrible system. for instance - say someone leaves their credit card inside the store on the counter. if i am dishonest, i can take their card and ring up a huge gas bill at the pump before they even realize that the card is missing. there is a system in place that stopps you from filling up multiple times in one day, but if you never hang up the pump, you can bypass this feature.... there is no signature needed, and its the usual method used by credit card thieves to test if the card is active.

also, my chain has little grocery marts attached to almost all the stores. we make NO money on gas, many stores in price wars with competiors take losses. gasoline is a draw to get you INTO the store so you buy a sandwich or something else that has a much higher profit margin. knowing that, you would think that pay at the pump would detract from that.

convenience wise, yes its faster, but just at customers dont care about anyone anuyone else, the company really doesnt care about you unless they are making money from you. no profit on what youre buying = you have to wait. we have 4 pumps, and we go through about 6k in gas a day. lines are commonplace, but since we dont make a profit on it more pumps will not be added.

and you think that people that dont know how to use pay at the pump are annoying, try having your store full during morning rush hour. then 4 people in a row buy a 95 cent cup of coffee with a credit card, making everyone else late for work. ive actually had fights break out because someone was holding up the line with multiple credit purchases that 5 dollars cash would have taken care of. thank god we dont accept personal checks.

We need those vouchers back to stop fraud and to stop you scanning the barcode over and over. All the money off vouchers have the same barcode (£2.00 etc). If we didn't take them off you you could just use them again or scan them over and over.... :p

Pay at the pump is okay, but the only store that has it near me is an 'Asda' store. Two things I don't like about it:

    1) It doesn't ask for a PIN number. I could be using anyone's card that I nabbed out of someone's pocket...

    2) Asda's petrol is terrible. My car won't run on it properly, and pinks almost constantly when filled with it. (If you have an old / classic car... avoid Asda petrol!) I know that's nothing to do with pay at the pump, but I thought it was worth mentioning.

Personally, I prefer to pay at the kiosk unless I'm in a hurry. Probably because I'm used to it. Looks like we're a bit behind the times 'up north'.

I agree Bodger, the security side of it is awful. I could be using anyones card, I havent even noticed any cameras to record your number plate as theres no chance of you not paying for the petrol as you pay first.

i can assure you that every number plate is recorded. All new Tesco Petrol stations are using Hard disk recorders. You can't see them but they're there

The self service checkout at Tesco doesn't check your PIN and so it's extremely easy to get away with using someone else's card!
Yeah you have to sign but because it's an electronic one it's easier to forge. Not that i've tried of course :worried:
