I am a console gamer now trying to pc game, now on console you have stuff like playstation network/ xbox live and whatever the wii has.

Now when it comes to PC

    Steam
    Origin
    Gamefly/D2D
    Ijji
    Greenman Gaming
    G2 Play
Games for windows live ( this sucks so bad )
    DRM
Always on internet to play single player games...

and for all them you have to install their clients

and also certain games dont even utilise any of them

anybody played battlefield bad company 2 on the pc you have to have a seperate friends list in game

doesn't anybody think it should be just one platform/ one client not all this BS

In think this is maybe the few things console has over pc gaming

Remember I have to give my credit card to ALL these companies

On PS3 just to sony and even then you can go to a game shop and buy a psn card

you make it sound as if choice is a bad thing.

    you only need steam.

Origin for Battlefield 3 ;) Oh don't lets forget GFWL or games for windows live (batman arkham city), which requires you to have a hotmail account etc etc etc. On the other hand. that's why PC games are miles cheaper than their console counterparts. You won't fine Mafia 2 on PS3 for £5 etc.

but with pc its mostly download only. when the game is pulled you cant get it, and console you can get pre owned download only means paying more sometimes though

Costing more for download only is irrelevant really, the majority of the time the pc version is cheaper (often by a good £10) than the console version anyway, download or not.

Also I don't think there are many games that are pulled since steam has a lot games which have been around for ages, and a search on ebay can find any that you are struggling with. Just because retail shops don't sell preowned PC games it doesn't mean that they aren't around.

I agree it can get a bit annoying with so many places needing a specific client, but most of them are only for downloading the games (gamefly etc.) and many like gamersgate delete themselves when they're done

and yes GFWL is a big heaping pile of poop.

However between GoG and Steam, you probably won't need any others (and GoG doesn't require you to use it's downloader, although it does seem to be bloody quick)

It is a bit annoying I have origin, steam, GFWL and ubisofts game launcher thing all types of DRM for the games I have installed.

And then I have a disk in the drive for a retail game.

Wanting a monopoly instead of a competitive market strikes me as a bit crazy. If you want one platform, then stick to one platform. You have the option to do that, you'll just be limited to the games on that platform, in the same way that you're limited to 360 games on a 360.

You had a nice safe easy life where expensive games with ugly graphics were fed to you by microsoft or sony.

The PC is all about choice, not being forced to play on antique hardware.

Steam is not all you need... Steam is great for price reductions sometimes and ease of use. Actually I say ease of use but games on steam can often be more problematic than buying from other sources and installing from DVD. Example... I bought Shattered Horizon on steam a few years ago. It worked a while, then it didn't work. Now it doesn't work at all and hasn't worked across 2 builds of PC. The good part about steam is that you don't have to worry about game updates, steam does it for you.

Not every game you want will be on steam so you need to buy from other sources too. I actually like buying on DVD and installing sometimes. Yes, games have to be installed... it's nothing to be afraid of. You've been console conditioned and it can take many months for your brain to return to normal and adjust now you're free.

Installing games is fun, sometimes it's more fun downloading and installing than playing a game.

Can you watch porn on your console?

To me gaming has got worse. They do it more for consoles now. The choice you have now is very limited.

I do not like steam and will not use it. I would rather have the DVD, that way I always know that I have the game close to hand.

there's only one that provides regular mega sales, therefore that's the one that matters.

besides, GFWL only runs when you run the actual game unlike Origin. so just set it to auto login and it should be invisible and unintrusive. (when it works)

Well, you can't download or install BF3 through Steam (you still need Origin for that) but if you add Origin as a non-Steam game, then launch Origin through that, then launch BF3 normally, you can get the Steam overlay inside BF3. I would expect this to work in any other Origin game.

Struggling to see the problem you have. Then again I don't own a console, perhaps being reamed by Sony is pleasurable, I don't know.

All I know is I've payed a fraction of the cost of buying my games through all these places than I would have if there had been a monopoly. And what was the downside? Urmmm, having to wait 20 seconds for a downloader to install on three occasions.

Did this make anyone else chuckle? Sony's record on security is not exactly great.

I can see what you mean, if I play f1 2011, then battlefield, then CoD or whatever, I end up with 3 or more services running in the background, beeping away when ever a friend does anything.

The console system does work (I use PS3 btw) but because there is no competition, it is badly implemented. I think the only reason I ever used the playstation store was to buy a dlc and the experience was rubbish, it took about an hour :(.
