    Hey guys

Was wondering if there is any point investing in a xbox360 controller to play some pc games with. I

would never use it with FPS's as i love my mouse and keyboard combo however are there any other

games that would make the purchase worthwhile ? I have a G25 so wouldn't need it for racing

games however i feel that using a controller with GTA4 might be worthwhile. Also my bed is

opposite my desk where my monitor is so i could do some relaxed gaming as opposed to being on a desk chair :)

Any suggestions of game titles that work well with the Xbox360 controller and experiences with it would be fantastic !

Well, if you are only going to use it with GTA4 it is a little Pointless, Fallout 3 could use it well.

I Would say get the Wired one, but you want Wireless.

I have an Xbox 360 controller for my PC and I never use it although all the games I would use it for I use my Xbox.

If you play driving games it's a must IMO.

Yes. GRID with a 360 controller is orgamsic, seriously..it's such a massive improvement, I couldn't go back to keyboard driving games if I tried.

GTAiv, though, as said above, doesn't mesh well. I prefer it with kb+m. Fallout 3 and Oblivion both work well, as do older games like morrowind and the like. Be prepared to find a profiler application though, because configuring the 360 controller without one, using only ingame menus, is like stroking a kitten with a brick.

the man just said he has a g25 for driving games, having one myself i can tell you that grid is even more insane with one then using a pad.

tbh the only real reason to get one would be for games like dead space or velvet assassin and even then its down to the devs as to what level of lazy m/k support theyve implemented.

id say no, you dont really need one and put the money towards DiRT 2 instead :D

I Wouldnt Even imagine using a Keyboard with a Racing Game, you need the precision of atleast a Joystick.

But as you have a G25, either get a 360 and use that Controller, or get a Wired one to see if you will use it.

True, but it's not down to whether you need one, it's about whether it can offer an improved gaming experience anywhere. I reckon it can in some games. It depends how much you love keyboard and mouse and how you game - I quite like playing easy-going games like Oblivion and Assassin's Creed from lying in bed, for which a gamepad is obviously essential.

If you're a desk gamer, though, and play sitting in an office chair in a different corner or even an entirely different room to your sofa or bed, then there's no point getting one (except for a very few titles that just need a gamepad, like Assassins' Creed).

I bought one cause it was so incredibly cheap. It cost me £17.99 including delivery from play.com

The thing is though, I barely use it. FPS, RTS, are all best with a keyboard and mouse. It is perfect for driving games but you have a wheel for that already and I personally don't really play driving games. It was fantastic for driving in GTA 4 and in fact I found the choppers a pain to fly with the mouse so it really made those more fun. But I didn't even use it for driving because once you jump out the car, you need to be able to cap people in the head and the gamepad is crap for that. So basically I have only used it a few times, to fly the chopper in GTA 4, and in a few driving games that you wouldn't need it for.

I'm still glad I have it though because it works with everything, so there will be something at some point that I'll use it for. Also I have some old games like Atomic Bomberman and it works with those, so when I feel like playing some of those it will be as good as the keyboard for those kinds of games.

cheers guys it looks like there is not much point in getting one, tbh my monitor is only 22 inches so sitting on my bed playing it would be at a bit of a push vision wise. yea could buy dirt 2, the new need for speed game (apparently its supposed to be more of a simulator .... :p) etc instead with the money.

I'm not really much of a retro gamer so emulation isn't much of an issue

    thanks for all the advice

or so you think. Try playing GTR2 against players using a wheel or even a gamepad and you won't stand a chance

I generally tend to stick to the principle any FPS or RTS i buy for the keyboard and any 3rd Person Platformer/Hack n Slash i get for my 360.

As such, the only game i can think of now that i play on my 360 and is available on the PC would be Devil May Cry 4... absolutely amazing game imo with a nice addictive quality. Also it's definitely something i would never want to play with a keyboard..... never.

well durr, GTR is a SIM thus to board it would be silly, i was reffering to non sim racers like DiRT and NFS.

    Emulators :)

Other than that I dont really use my 360 pad much, it sees use in Grid only because I have no wheel. After that its pretty much redundant.

adventure games and RPGs would benefit from it. any 'games for windows' branded game actually has to support the 360 pad out of the box, and most steam games come with a gamepad mapping these days.

Sports games (Fifa and PES) deffo require a gamepad to get the most out of it. I would suggest a wired one too.

I use my wired 360 controller all of the time - particularly in GTA IV. GTA IV would be rubbish without the pad, ditto for GRID.

    £17.99 for a wired xbox360 contoller is a bargain.
