I maybe building a computer soon and I was woundering when bit tech will be updating the buying guide.

Also what is the outlook like over the next 1 to 3 months, is there any componet which is worth holding out for, GPU etc?

I need to build a desktop to drive at least a 24" pc, need to do micro$oft exams (MCITP Self-Paced Training 70-640, 646 etc) also want to be able to play Arma 2.

What kind of parts do you need to drive the Dell UltraSharp U2711 for Arma 2, im looking at spending the money on the 27", I guess you can always drop it down to 1900x1200 for Arma 2?

you'll want to drop down to 1920x1080 since the Dell U2711 is 16:9 monitor. get the U2711, it'd well worth the price at around £600, buy it before stock runs out.

to drive 27inch, you'll want at least a gtx580 or ATI's unreleased/rumoured 6970. i can tell you from my experience, 5870's 1GB vRAM is NOT enough.

Arma 2 is extremely hard on your comp, let alone at that resolution! Get ready to drop some dough. But I guess you knew that as your buying a really expensive screen.

few things are making go for this.

1 - im on a t60p and I huncher over it and the wireless is making me feel ill and I cant concentrate at my home work.

2-I need a proper pc to do complex mmicrosoft enviroments, I actually need to do two by the end of dec for silver partner status.

3-Some gaming and a big screen for watching news streams and sports (boxing fan) would be nice.

    How much £?

if you build a system around the 1366 platform with i7950 proccesor

your looking at around £800 for that before gpu

580 is around £450 if you can find one in stock

    + your moniter at £600

looking at some change from £1900 enough not much change

holding off for components with no set release date is never a good idea.

Sandybridge and the ati 69 series may be worth waiting for but i personally wouldnt

even if the 6970 is faster than the 580 it wont be by much 1-2 fps, Sandybridge still lacks alot of confirmed details, Costs to buy a motherboard and cpu that supports overclocking been main one. Ivy bridge is ment to be the 930 replacement

Given the stated requirements, you don't need the buyers guide for the bones of the machine. Sounds like a no brainer case of 1366 with a Sabertooth and a 950 to me.

Maybe wait till mid month for the GPU update, but aside from that crack on. Sandybridge is a big question on the horizon, but it brings with it the VAT rise and questions over the price of RAM and whole bunch of other stuff.
