    Hi guys

I've just put together some bits into a little HTPC. One thing i have learnt is not to use cheap wireless k/b and mouse solutions, with a mouse range of 1m and k/b of 1.5 the cables i have on my wired versions stretch further.

Thus I am considering methods of being able to control my HTPC without getting off the couch. The first that came to mind was to buy a PC IR remote, OOP, looking around quickly they appear to be about half as much as I paid for the HTPC itself. Second idea that followed was "I already have a huge stack of remotes, can I use one of them??"

Does anyone know of software that I can use to interface a normal remote, i.e. dvd remote with directional pad, to control the PC? I have a little USB IR receiver that I intend to use.

    Many thanks

    Eric

Yeah, if you have an IR reciever, you can get a few programs for free and just use any random remote control (Ie ones you can buy in a pound shop) to control the computer. In fact I think I remember seeing a tutorial on here for making a dirt-cheap IR reciever. I think it involved about 3 components and cost about 20p!

Before I knew this, I bought a StreamZap remote control (Link), which works really nicely.
