Hi, I have had this problem for a long time but it used to be a rare thing however in the last few days its been happening several times a day and its getting worse. The problem is I will be doing whatever and the sound will just get stuck making the same sound over and over and the monitor will say "no signal" (and the screen on my g15 keyboard also locks up) When it used to do this a simple restart would be enough but now normally when I restart it the monitor just stays on no signal and they keyboard doesn't even light up. Also when I start up now I some times get a message saying that "overclocking failed" even though I have never made an attempt to overclock anything. simply hitting f12 to load defaults allows the pc to boot in which case it may run fine for hours or it may crash again within minutes. yesterday when windows was loading I got the windows error sound but it loaded. It then said helper.dll was not found. I was just going to reinstall windows to see if that fixed it but the overclocking message thing has got me thinking it might be a hardware issue. What do you guys think? Also how do I install windows but get it to keep the old installation as well? I used to do it all the time but I can't remember if it was automatic. Mobo is an asus p5ke or ske its something like that but I don't want to retart to find out incase it won't boot back up geforce 8800 gts 312 mb E6550 @ 2.33ghz 6GB ram. Also a few days ago avast found a file called "trusted installer" in system 32 which it thought was a rootkit so I told it to delete it. Is it possible that it has been there a while and that's what has caused the issue? If theres anything else you need to know let me know.
6gb of ddr2? they should be installed in pairs- if there's 3 sticks in there the builder was on crack if you could test the memory with something like memtest or prime95- if it doesn't pass.. check out each stick one at a time and narrow it down- that could be the cause of the bad overclock messages your getting the other stuff is probably software related
I installed them myself I have reinstalled windows hopefully that will solve the problem if not i will try memtest.
i would also recommend re-sitting the memory. Making sure that it is all seated ok. Even pulling 2x of the sticks out and running with one, to see if that stops the problem. Then putting one stick back in at a time. Once you have it stable with all 3 sticks in run memtest on it and check for any errors.
What OS do you have 32bit or 64bit ?? If its a 32 bit I would remove 2gb of ram anyway it's a total waste as 32bit cant use more than 4gb And if its a 64bit put 2gb more in for dual channel.
It's w7 64 bit. I considered removing the ram and such but I thought I would try reinstalling windows first and so far that seems to have worked.
