im not sure where to put this in but: my pc is locking up during games, it happens randomly, when it does happen the screen will frezze and shortly after the sound will jitter any ideas as to what this is and how i can fix this? system specs on sig
Need more information. Likely to be caused by the following: Bad GFX, Chipset, or sound Driver (need to know what versions of what hardware u are using and the drivers u r using). Corrupt or incorrect Direct X version Make sure u are using 9.0c (or the latest one compatible with your hardware) Corrupt Memory Less common than the other 2 but still a possibility. Damaged HDD May be heavily fragmented or actually have bad sectors System Overload Turn down the graphics and sound detail on your machine full screen antialiasing can cause crashes with a lot of older GFX cards. Virus/Spyware Run a sweep of your system with your antivirus, and get Spybot to check for spyware Bad Mobo/Mobo software Having a motherboard with faulty components may be the cause of your issue (overheating NB that kind of thing), and disable any windows based "Dynamic overclocking software", it will probably screw your gaming (especially if your board has a scrwwed AGP/PCI lock) Please tell us EXACTLY what hardware you are using, and what windows version/service pack/drivers etc... you are using. NOTE: you inital post was unhelpful to the point of being pointless, it's no surprise noone offered to help.
ok gpu is 6800ultra on pci-e i have driver version 6.6.9.3 on dx diagnostics is says agp accenleration enabled, what is that , i have pci-e should i turn it off? another thing how do i tell if my dx9c is bad last, this started happaning when i installed my 6800 im using a dvi to vga connector beacue my monitor is older and does not have the right dvi slot
Okay, for starters get rid of the 66.93s they're crap get the 67.02 Betas or higher. What GFX did you have before the 6800?
ok i had pcx 5700, i dont remeber what drivers they had, i think they where older though. the 66's came on the cd i will update the drivers and let you know how it goes
ok should i unistall the drivers and install the bedas or should i just install the bedas with out uninstalling anything?
i think its evga i havent tested the divers yet, so lets wait till ill do before we go on, btw i am running memtest x86 later tonight to test the ram
ok doom 3 seems to work fine it glitches when i loads the opaning cinima simmilar thing happend when i runned cs:s and i joined a server and pessed "ok" it really glitched up in a simmilar way to doom 3 it still lockes up when it does this just now its in a differnt way
What clocks is your board running at (an ultra should be 400/1100), if it is overclocked (even factory overclocked ones dont always hold their clocks) then that could be causing the instability.
install this.... http://www.softpedia.com/get/Tweak/Video-Tweak/GeForce-Overclocking-CoolBits-Reg.shtml Then go from rightclick on desktop -> Properties -> Settings -> Advanced -> GeForce 6800 Ultra -> Clock Frequency Settings. It will tell you your 2D and 3D clockspeeds there. It could be a power issue with the card... are you supplying the PCI-Express plug with two different power lines, or are both molex connectors plugged in to the same power line (from the PSU)?
what brand is the PSU. Also whats the power digrams look like? EG: cd HD ultra power socket one on this cable and ultra socket two + DVD on another cable? edit: Yea what Bigz said
ummm to tell you the turth yes all power connectars are in, im running out of the legacy or w/e you call the 4pin ones, ill lookin to it and give you full psu plug spec, i wont post again till eather late tommarow or tuesday beacuse i will be away EDIT: all gfx connectars are pluged in both of the ones that go into the the big one that looks like a aux power plug (on the gfx card) i am not sure what else that line of connectors is plugged into i only have 1 4pin left wich is for a fan im putting in 2marrow to cool the cpu more edit2: both connectar i belive are in the same power line i cant change this though, tell me if you want me to
normal clock on coolbitz thing edit: could it be dx9c corruption, should i try omega drivers? ive gotta stop editing: i think i could be the power, no i think it is seeing the symtoms. do you mind if we work together to get this problem sloved(ill try to post pics)???
if this is the PSU http://www.thermaltake.com/purepower/W0027.htm then i put my money on trying run too much stuff off the 12+V line Only 18A there I'm guessing over draw when the 6800 kickes it into high gear
