    Enermax did one too, the Enermax Galaxy.

    But if you think that's impressive, OCZ has done a 1100Watts version which is essentially two PSUs in one housing.

    Keeping in mind that even a 1000 Watt PSU will actually draw 1400 Watts from the wall, that sure is going to make some impact on your utilities bill...

    1kW is huge... don't think I'll ever need it... But maybe the multiple TB servers, yeah, maybe...

    Personally think it's a waste...

    I dont really think its needed - and seeing as companies are taking power into aco******** more, I would imagine power requirements would be staying around the same, or even dropping (in the near future anyway).

    hehe...yeah, bloodcar, I was in that boat too until all of 2 or 3 months ago. Finally went to a whopping 420.

    With the lower-pull chips, I just don't see this being that big a deal. Yeah, SLI blah blah blah, but that's gratuitous excess for the most part anyways, as well as the waste of a good graphics card. I run my system pretty lean, though, so maybe I'm a bad one to talk...I hate heat, and don't really want my electric bill to spike.

    1400 watts wall draw; 12 Amperes on a 120v line... I think these people have gone insane. This is overkill to the extreme, and power requirements are getting out of hand.

    Ok if you want to power more than one computer, but honestly, even the most powerful Athlon 64 FX57 with TB's of HDDs and dual graphics wouldn't need that much power. You could call this extreme futureproofing. But chances are that the PSU will break before you'll need 1KW in 15 years time.

    i think a system with an overclocked dual core, dual operaton 250 system with sli 7800GT'x and 8Gb of ram 3Tb of scsi storage 2 dvd r+- , 2 digi Tv cards a floppy and some fans, uv lights with some hard core watercooling system running of the 1Kw psu would just about draw 1kw of power.

    they should do what server power suplys do 3X 300wate = 600w + a spare 300w you couls wire it up so it uses all 3 psu and get 900w :hip:

    I think there will be a market for these PSUs, how big is a different matter.

    Unforunately, not everyone can afford quad Opterons, SLI and a massive array of hard drives :p

    And by then we'll be running solid state hard drives in teensytiny boxes that only take milliwatts to run. :clap:

    Well Leeum, I doubt most of us could afford that power supply either :hehe: . Maybe its like a self creating market, the only people who need that much power are the ones with enough money to be able to build a system requiring it, then being able to buy the power supply.
    I'm thinking of the DMX (Maximum PC dream pc 05) that used the aforementioned ridiculous style setup. But they were humming along with the PC and Power Cooling 850 jobber- so unless you have a hard drive array worthy of the libraryof congress or something, it really is overkill.

    Hmmm...nah. I'd have to look up the exact power tables, but what you are listing is:

    Dual core dual Opterons: 2 X 110W
    SLI 7800GTXs: about 2 x 70W
    8Gb RAM: about 80 W (estimated. I'll check the tables when I get home).
    Two DVD R+/-: about 2 x 35 W (est.)
    SCSI: about 30 W per HDD (est.)
    Watercooling: well, the pump won't be more than 20 W.

    Total: 530W plus 30W per HDD. Have, say, four and you clock about 650W. Still within conventional high-end PSU range.

    LOL :D I see a new form of benchmarking: How Large a Blackout Can Your PC Cause? Measured in square miles. :p

    I've run (well, do run) two DVD burners, 5 hard drives, SLI 6800GT@Ultra cards and an A64 with about a 25% overclock, plus two 12v pumps and a few fans on a 550w-rated Antec. No problem.

    I suppose for some ultra-uber-server-of-death it might be useful, if nothign else for unquestioned stability. But even dual dual-core opterons with a pair of 6800Ultra's (as 7800GTX uses less power by my understanding) and 8 15k RPM drives plus another four or so 7200RPM drives wouldn't even stress the 850w one. And why you would put SLI in a server, the most power-demanding configuration at that, is well beyond me. I'm just trying to make a point.
