I know this is just a pretty basic case build, nothing flash, nothing fancy, but I feel like a bit of show and tell. As that's what we are all about, isn't it? Now boys and girls... The first lot of pic's are from about 2 months ago when I first built this computer. First I start by gutting and cleaning an old case I found in my Dads garage: Gigabyte 945GCM-S2L and 2GB Kingston RAM: Intel Pentium E2160 1.8GHz: Thermaltake 430W: Installed: This is what we ended up with and where I left off to night... ...because I got a package this morning (I was at work so I got it when I got home). I bought this at the same time as the components, problem was that as it said in stock online it was on back order for the first month since then is has taken another month up until now to get it due to my dad being a slack arse at organizing the shipping. (moved out of town and have been pestering him to send it to me. Here it is: No real modding I know but doesn't that just look tasty!!! Not that you could really call it modding, more overclocking. I overclocked that bottom of the range E2160 1.8GHz processor to 2.25GHz with the stock cooler!!! So what do you guys think? Questions/comments very welcome.
The stock cooler can deal with alot more than 2.25GHz, i had a quad at 3.4GHz on its stock cooler, which tbh isn't different in anyway. i suggest you pull the slot loader out and spray it black. tis a cheap mod and wouldn't look as bad as it dose now.
Can anyone on this planet tell me why some people put the optical drive at the bottom most position om th case, to make it to most difficult to reach position. Hey! why not put it on the back of case on your way! As a computer user, you should not put is at a position where I have to get up of my seat, position in front of the case, lower myself, JUST to access the optical drive. There is no reason to do it, neither the PSU or the optical drive heat up to a point of melting and should be worrying. So WHY?!
Nice! I'ts always fun to get new goodies. I agree with burnout, take the facplate off the DVD drive and spray it black (satin?) and it would simple yet effective. Just a simple afternoon job.
Doesn't that CAN cause some slowdowns, as you share data on the same IDE cable HDD and optical drive. I thought that was the idea of having the secondary IDE cable, and that is why all professionals and pre-build computer companies that I know do that as well. wiki says: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Integrated_Drive_Electronics
Thanks all for the feed back. I can't OC anny futher without a better cooler beacuse at 2.2Ghz the temp is 56-58°C. Getting up there!! That DVD drive face is deffinetly going to be painted. As for putting it in the bottom of the rack, I didn't think the IDE cable could reach between the HDD and the top 5.25" bay. After screwing it in of corse I noted it could, I just couldn't be bothered moving it. Will do that when I take it out to paint it. Cheers NZmm
Intel coolers are a joke. Not a half bad overclock though. My e6600 would get to 55 degrees at stock speed with those stupid things, now it doesn't get over 43 with my CNPS9500 at 3ghz. Adding a VGA soon?
