I'm thinking about connecting my PC so that it will display normal windows on a widescreen TV. Also, of course for DVD viewing etc, but I'd like to be able to work in Windows on a large Widescreen TV. Can it be done? If so, what do I need? Changing back to watch regular TV: a simple case of switiching channels, or disconnecting required?
I'm also planning something similar with an HTPC that I'm currently thinking about building. As far as I know (and I'm quite prepared to be corrected ) all you need to do is hook the TV out from your PC to the TV, and then tell the video drivers to output via that connector rather than the standard VGA connector. Once that's done, it depends on how the PC is connected to the TV. If you can hook it up to an AV connector, then you could just switch from TV to AV with your telly remote and you're sorted. If you don't have AV ports, you should be able to buy one of the aerial spliter things that have a switch on them (games consoles used to ship with them). You then just need to flick the switch to select either TV or PC. But as I said, I'm quite prepared to be corrected on this matter
Unless your tv can automatically switch, or you can manually switch to 4:3 and you can sit far enough away... dont bother.... Windows through a TV is awful... DVD playback, however is fine
