Hi guys, this is a frequently asked question, but which system is the best for each genre? This is my verdict:

PC: FPS, RPG, Racing, though getting lower, all are the best or equal on PC.

360: FPS by far, but not many other games. FPS lovers buy this.

PS3: Racing games by far, mainly because of GT, which means that there are the most cars avaliable, and other PC games offer more realisticness, but don't offer many real cars. FPS here are the worst. Not many options, and graphically IMO, the Xbox 360 is better, but it depends on what you like.

I am deciding whether I want to get an Xbox or PS3, because I like FPS and racing games, particularly Tom Clancy, so which should I get? I also want to Battlefield, as I don't like all the other alien based games like Halo and stuff.

    Start talking!

FPS should be played with a keyboard and mouse..
RPG´s are point and click for most games, so that´s a no-brainer too.
That leaves you with racing games, which you could buy a wheel for either the PC or either of all consoles.
But as consoles aren´t upgradeable.. PC is the winner..

Yep, but then you've gotta think of the game range, and te fact that there is soon to be an Xbox 360 mouse and keyboard adapter from Team Xtreem...

Still, I would rather play BF2142 than BF2 Modern Combat.

IMO the PC is the best for gaming, but because some games stay on the consoles, if I want to play them I need a console.

This is exactly what I mean. I want to play GT, yet it is only on PS. Luckily the only games that I like are all on PC :) But they are all moving to consoles and away from PC :(

A PC is a proper gaming machine, if i want a steering wheel for a racing game, ile buy one and plug it in, if i want a control pad, ile do the same, and then a keyboard and mouse is the ultimate FPS weapon, so really, a PC has everything a console does, plus a hell of alot more, i can browse bit-tech for a start on a PC, cant do that on a 360, not sure about PS3 as ive not looked into it, but, as far as im conserned, a PC is my choice, except, when it comes to Halo, then the console has me locked to it, and that really is the only exception.

But GT isn't the only racing game, there are plenty of racing games available for the PC, GTR2 for instance. If theres a great game on a console, it's more than likely a PC will have either the very same game, or one just as good.

Funny thing is im about to go the console route, ive had my share of proper PC gaming.
BF2142 and Cs: S/HL2 is all whats left on my machine, there are no PC single player games i want to play or feel like playing, sure some are comming up but they are all one single genre.

I want GoW,PGR3, Viva pinata...etc the list goes on and all without the expensive hardware upgrades and stupid requirements that seem to be in fashion these days.

You can also view the standards of the hardware that is equipped with each "system". If you judge it by this, the PC is far superior to both the Xbox 360 and the Playstation 3.

Aside from the hardware, I still believe PC is the best gaming "system" available today. It's strength's would have to be the FPS and RPG categories. The PC can also be adapted as mentioned by samkiller42 to fit any other genre such as racing or sports related games.

If you look at it, the console only has three advantages. One being the lower monetary value. Secondly, it can also play any game made for it, considering every person's console is the same(hardware wise). And thirdly, you can have more than one person playing on it at a given time. But as the same hardware can be an advantage, it can also be a disadvantage considering you cannot upgrade your console, such as with a PC, to play more graphically demanding games.

I use my PC mainly for FPS and RTS games.. And all other games like platform, adventure, sandbox, fighting, racing, sports, etc etc, I play on my Xbox 360..

The topic starter said the PS3 is the platform for racinggames, but I'm not so sure.. Xbox 360 has Project Gotham Racing and Forza Motorsport among others, compared to the great GT on PS3 that's pretty equal I think.. Main reason why I bought a Xbox 360 last year was to play PGR3 online with a few of my friends.. And sure you can play racinggames on the PC aswell with a wheel etc, but there's just not as many people playing those online as there are on Xbox Live, that's another reason why I prefer to play them on the Xbox 360 instead of my PC.. And offcourse there's no PGR, Forza, or GT on the PC..

The only FPS/shooter games I play on the Xbox 360 are the ones that don't come out on PC.. Games like Gears of War, or Halo (not gonna wait until that comes out on PC much much later) etc..

I think thats where Nintendo made a good decision with the Wii, screw the graphics, they're fine as they are now, we'll not even bother trying to keep up with the PC/Sony/MS, lets just make a cheaper console thats got a unique control system and concentrates on fun games.

It's nice to have great graphics, it's also nice to have a bit of change left over.

True, but it's not like the Wii is that much cheaper then a Xbox 360 Core tbh.. Imho the Wii is not that cheap as people seem to think it is, I even think it's a bit overpriced for what you get for it (in terms of hardware).. They sell it for €250,-- overhere, 200 would have been better imho.. But that's just imho..

PS2 is still selling well because it's so cheap aswell, and has tons of cheap games available also..

FPS + RPG + MMO + RTS + TBS + games that will be around for years because of mods == PC

Consoles == party games or drunk games

racing games, platformers, and so on can pretty much go anywhere.

I agree with all the points that PC's are the best, but I hate the fact that all the games are gradually moving away to games consoles. All we can hope is that they will change their minds and move back to PC's, which I think will happen.

Not aslong as console game sales are on the way up, and PC game sales are on the way down I'm affraid.. Developers and especially publishers go where the money is eventually..

k just to let everyone know something about the consoles: the "video cards" that came in the newer consoles just came with GDDR3 and PC is coming out with XDR, which is much much faster then GDDR3, you can find more details about the memory here

id say the ps3 is better for just random fun adventure games like ratchet and clank.. also racing games can be ok but fps and rts definately for computer.. and rpg are just bad.
