can sombody post the basic dimensions on PCBs ? i want to design my own but dont realy like any of the free ones, and i'm gona use Auto Cad to design my board. im looking for simple stuff like the size of the traces and size of the pads the distance between the holes. or if anybody has the design for the "A Rheo Baybus you can't Overload!" i would be grateful
normal pin spacing is .01" or 2.5mm. try www.formfactors.org for board sizes and copper trace size i have a .pdf for somewhere... its on the web as well though!
Trace width calculator: http://www.geocities.com/CapeCanaveral/Lab/9643/TraceWidth.htm How wide they need to be depends on the copper thickness of the board you buy, expected track current, etc, so there's no 1-line answer. For pin spacing, check datasheets or catalogues for the actual components you buy. That's why pcb software is "complicated" - you need to pick many parts exactly by maker & model before the program can find the right footprint for it. That said, a 317T is 0.1" spacing, 16mm pots are 0.2" spacing and resistors you can please yourself, 0.4" covers most small ones.
Unless you use metallized holes you should also check the pin diameters of your devices. Soldering a 0.008" pin into a 0.020" hole with just a pad around can give you problems.
What is a good hole size and wire gauge to use with this project??? I’m not really using anything but basic components like resistors and voltage regulators. All help IS APPRECIATED.
Generally, I use a 0.080" pad size, a 0.050" track width, and a 1mm drill bit. However, some things require a bigger hole (pots spring immediately to mind - most need 1.2mm, but you can get away by wiggling the drill bit slightly)
ok now that i got my design almost done does anybody know a site were i can buy all the stuff i need at once ?? I'm going to do it the UV way and will try to use my UV CCFL's anybody ever do it and get good results ??
