I have an Asus P5K-VM with the following Expansion Slots 1 x PCI-E x16 1 x PCI-E x4 2 x PCI and want to buy a NIC - http://www.intel.com/network/connectivity/products/pro1000pt_desktop_adapter.htm My question is as follows: Even though this NIC uses PCI-E x1 can I use it in the above motherboards PCI-E x4 slot? Thanks.
yes, PCI-Express is fully flexible like that... if you wanted, you could install the network card in the X16 slot.
Thanks Tim. That is what I thought. I was put off when the mobo manual said that the PCI-E x16 is only for PCI-E x16 graphics cards.
Bought and installed. Very Easy. Yes, I can say that PCI-E x4 is 100% compatible with PCI-E x1. (At least for the stated board.) Thanks.
