I have a computer with an extra PCI graphics card in it, so I decided to connect a 2nd monitor to it. However, when I did this, I noticed a yellow exclamation mark next to the PCI card in device manager, and it says "This device cannot start (Code 10)".
It worked fine when I ran win98 on this computer a couple of weeks ago. I just installed XP Pro yesterday. I tried uninstalling and installing the device, and moving it to another PCI slot, but it still doesn't work. Any tips?

Im having exactly the same problem with my firewire card - the pc is out of resources but im at a whits end about how to fix it. Ive tried every pci slot and reset the bios - NOTHING works. If you find the solution please let me know.

EDIT: No, it works, i dont understand!? IRQ 22. Eh? Fiddle round in the BIOS, try PCI slot 3?

"out of resources" time to disable 1 or 2 of the 6-10 usb ports you have onboard.... that should free some up.

Hehe, ok I can try disabling some USB ports. Have a lot of them...
The reason why it worked in win98 and not in winxp is that XP uses more resources then?

probably that or XP just doesnt like it's resources to be shared.

select the PCI card to be your first boot display in BIOS - it should solve the problem

    Hehe, funny problem :worried:
I can't get into BIOS... This is a HP pavilion pre-built. It doesn't say anything about "press DEL to enter bios" or anything. Tried pressing del and various F-keys alot now, but I cannot reach the BIOS...

IIRC on some HP PCs you can get rid of the splash screen by pressing escape, then you will have the normal screen which will tell you which button to press.

There is a hot-key or key combination to let you get into the BIOS set-up, I guarantee it. As mentioned, try ESC or TAB. If neither of those work, try all your normal key's then try them again with CTRL.

As for dual-monitor, the official stance is that it is only supported with identical video cards (mainly because it is impossible to test for conflicts in every possible combination). So, any time you get to non-matching video cards to work, consider yourself lucky as you are beyond the official support of W98, W2K, or WXP.

So, along those lines, if they are not identical video cards and they work nicely together in W98 that doesn't mean you should expect them to work nicely together in WXP (though you may manage to get them to work).
