Hiya, In my water cooling project, I'm eventually planning on upgrading to Peltier cooling for the CPU, but I'm also planning on using 8mm tubing (Aqua-Computer), and the Danger Den maze 4-1 CPU Peltier block only uses 1/2" tubing. I have two options: 1) Get a Peltier waterblock that uses 8mm tubing, but I can't seem to find any other than the DD one 2) Build a second loop for the CPU. 1) is the easiest, and I'm planning on an Evo 360 mounted in the top, so there should be plenty of radiator cooling.... But, is there a 8mm peltier W/C block available? I could also use convertors for the DD, but they affect the flow.. and I'm likely to have GPU and NB in the circuit as well. I could use a Y connector to split the CPU off to its own little bit, would that be a solution? 2) is probably the most likely, but.. what size of radiator would I need? I can fit a 120mm rad in the case as well - is this enough? Do I *need* a reservoir, or will rad, pump and W/B be enough? Thanks
Resevoirs are optional, you can just use a t piece and fill using the extra bit then bung it up with a AA battery or something similar. As for cpu blocks apart from the Maze 4 there is one by swiftec though i dont remember the name of it off the top of my head. Out of curiosity what is the reason you dont want to use 1/2 ID tubing? For pelts you want as much flow as possibly so its best to use this all round. I also wouldn't recommend using a pelted cpu with a gpu and nb blocks on a 120mm rad. The nb is pointless really anyway so dont bother.
The Aqua-Computer WC stuff uses 8mm tubing, so I can't use 1/2" tubing with it. I also prefer the look of AC to 1/2" tubing etc. Its looking like the easiest option is a second, 1/2" loop for the CPU. What radiator size would I need to just cool the pelt? I'm planning on mounting a 360mm rad to the top of the case, I could also fit a 120mm rad in elsewhere in the case. Would the 120mm rad be enough to cool the CPU pelt, and use the 360mm for GPU and NB? I could do it the other way round I guess, but....
Ah with a 360mm rad you should be fine i thought you were going to try t all with a 120mm. The second loop option would be an idea as the pelt chucks out a lot of heat. My 120W pelt makes water temp about 6C over ambient and your gonna need a 226w pelt for the cpu. Also bear in mind you need a psu capable of powering pelts. A 226w pelt would cripple a normal psu. SO something along the lines of a meantec is needed and these chuck out serious amounts of heat so make sure this heat doesnt circulate around the case or it'll heat up all our components
Thanks for the feedback, appreciated I'm considering getting two rads, one 360mm and the other 160mm/120mm, both with interchangable barbs (3/8" or 1/2"), so I can mix and match to see which is best. Would a 120/160 cope with a 226W pelt on its own? I can feed the other bits (NB and GFX so far) through the 360mm? That just seems a waste of a 360mm rad tho. Alternatively I could feed the NB/GFX etc through a 120/160mm rad and use the 360mm for the Pelt - is this overkill for just a pelt? I have my eye on the Meantec, but I may have space for a second PSU in the case, so I might do it that way. Ideally I'd prefer it all on the same loop though, leaves me more space. Problem with that is the flow rates. Oh wait, I can get the Danger Den Maze 4-1 factory fitted with 3/8" barbs - that would be perfect! Is using 3/8" going to be ok, if I use a 360mm rad (possibly as well as a 120/160mm rad)? This would eventually be cooling the GFX as well, possibly NB and hard disks.
What are you looking for from the system? Hard drive coolers kill flow and are designed pretty badly. So i'd avoid them at all costs unless your running seperate loops. You'd be fine with all 3 running from the 360mm ram. What kinda fan your gonna be using on it and how are you mounting them?
Won't bother with HDD cooling then. I'm just looking for good cooling, and something that looks moderately good (hence Aqua-Computer). Well, the fans supplied are Papst. Haven't got the specs to hand, but will look later. Can change them though. Gonna be mounted as fan pushing air through radiator upwards: GRILLE CASE RADIATOR FANS ^^^ PUSH ^^^ (3 x 120mm) Reckon, even with 3/8" tubing, that'd be ok?
Yeah it should be alright. Only one way to find out though. And this way you get to play with the most fun cooling. Pelts are great to mess with. More fun than a prommie and normal water anyway
this? Thanks... Am debating whether to go CPU water cooling first, then later on, jump to Peltier.. or just go for Peltier straight away... Its tempting to jump for Peltier straight off. One question though, is minus temperatures that a big issue? There's condensation issues, but as I understand it, only around the CPU socket area, and the neoprene(?) is an air tight seal? I keep reading about liquid electrical tape or something, that forms a seal on the back of the CPU socket? It was an american site though, whats the UK eqivulalent? Is it this? Anything else I should watch out for?
You'll get condensation even at non minus temps as it occurs with anything if it gets colder that ambient. Yeah that conformal coating is handy you just spray your card with it although i didnt use any. As long as you fit everything properly and take your time you'll be fine. Dont forget you need dieelectric grease aswell to help prevent hardware problems. Best bet is to read a few guides to pelting and if it scares you stick with water if you think you can handle it go for it
