That's the problem, I wouldn't use it enough. I discovered this recently and sold off my Pelikan and TWSBI

Can you expand on that? What do you write with instead? I'm all for learning you see.

Absolutely. I write with a Mont Blanc Meisterstück LeGrand fountain pen with an extra fine nib.

It writes beautifully and feels wonderful to hold.

:jawdrop: So many gorgeous pens. I really want to get a new one but I have decided to wait until June, as in my current job I don't want to take anything nice with me to the office in case it has to be taken off me and destroyed for safety reasons :grr:

Would it be fair to say expecting a TWSBI to fight with a MB is unrealistic? Serious question, it's just I wouldn't immediately consider comparing them due to the price difference.

I've never understood the internet hype over TWSBI, their pens aren't as good as Pelikan etc. for the same price. Admittedly my daily pen is a Montblanc Meisterstück Platinum Classique, so I'm a bit biased as well.

What about a Sheaffer 300 or 100? Can't speak for the 300 but I've had my 100 a while and it's been great with MB inks for general purpose and note taking.

Just ordered a pair of Platinum 3776 Century, one with a UEF nib for me and an EF for my dad's 60th. He gets ink cartridges, whilst mine'll get filled with Montblanc ink.

Interesting, why did you go for another fountain pen if you already have a MB?

    Several reasons!
    - My MB has an EF nib, but it really isn't actually that fine. The 3776 has a UEF nib that MB don't offer, so it gives me that bit more flexibility.
    - Colours! I have several fountain pens, loaded with different colour inks. The hassle of draining a pen, cleaning it out and then reloading it just to switch colours (and wasteful) is something I want to avoid. So, I have pens in black, blue, red, green and highlighter yellow currently. Not sure what this one will be filled with at the moment, either MB grey or ku-jaku blue by Pilot.

Good reasons! I also have the EF nib and I only half fill my pen so that I can rotate the 10 or so MB inks that I have.

I wasn't massively impressed with the TWSBI nibs. Took a fair bit of tweaking before I was happy with mine. I reground it from a 1.1 stub to a 0.8 stub and made it a touch wetter, which is much more pleasant.

None of the modern pens I own hold a candle to my vintage pens though.

I received some Mont Blanc Mystery Black ink today, it's... black! Makes a nice simple change though.

I definitely like my pens more than my keyboards :)

Has anyone here used the Pilot Metropolitan? It's currently on massdrop and I'm tempted to pick up a couple - one to have black ink in and one for red ink for marking. Are they decent pens? Also, does anyone know if they're available in the UK before I join the drop?

    Cheers

I am drawing up a rather long shopping list for a nice new pen to celebrate escaping the horrors of west Cumbria, so I better start saving all my pennies :)

Think I will go for one (maybe two) of those Pilot Metropolitans - they seem like decent pens for the price :)
