hey, looks nice in here, never been in here before, although i'd like to change that in the future. simply because i'd like to learn more about networking. that brings me to reason of this post; i'd like to have a chat with someone who works in networking to get a feel of what its like, the kind of learning/studying involved and if all the studying is worth it at the end.

if anyone would like a chat over msn, please feel free to strike up convo.. my address is below :)

    thanks.

Check and see if your school has a Cisco Networking class. If they do I recommend enrolling in it. You'll learn lots. Plus you get a huge discount when taking the CCNA test. :D

Ditto. Cisco classes will teach you just about everything you need to know. The rest comes from experience.

The CCNA course is one of quite a few Cisco courses.

It involves learning each layer of the OSI model in detail (google it) in CCNA1, CCNA2 is about routing and I forget what CCNA3 and 4 are about (there are 4 semesters per course).

GrimReaper, I'll find out what 3 and 4 are tomorrow for you when im in my cisco lesson (unless someone beats me to it :D). Welcome to the bit-tech too, btw :)

3&4 is mostly programming and more hands on routing I believe.

Chapter 2: Routers and Routing Basics
Chapter 3: Switching and Intermediate Routing
    Chapter 4: WAN Technologies

:) And there's loads of info http://cisco.netacad.net/public/index.html there.

I'am Currently doing a CCNA, ( just started Semestar 3) and if networking is your thing then its great, but it is not easy and you really need to get your head around something and some parts ( like subnetting) is alot of maths work so make sure your pretty confident with your maths :thumb: . Apart from its a great course and I highly reccomend it.

I am taking Cisco classes at my high school, as well as electronics and computer classes. I find the Cisco class very interesting, and I like the fact that I can always access the information on the website. I am also currently working with my school's network administrator. I am getting interesting hands-on experience to go with my classroom training.
