Alright as some of you may know I have been trying really hard to make my CPU stable, passing IntelBurnTest (Residual all equal), Prime95 (8Hours+), and finally the temperatures. I have successfully obtained all that are required to be considered stable (I think :wallbash:)but now all I need to know is, is my IDLE temp okay or is it still to high (In your standards)

If you are a Q6600 user and happen to have it OC'd to 3.4GHz can you please tell me what your IDLE temps are? Preferably from RealTemps since Core Temp is usually 5*C above.

I don't own a Q6600 (or a 65nm chip for that matter), but my idle temps right now are about the exact same as yours are for 2 cores and a 45nm chip (with multiplier throttling down to 6x for power saving).

A lot of your idle temperature deals with case airflow, and ambient temp. The reason my temps are equal or higher than yours are at idle, is because my case doesn't have as good of airflow as yours, and because my ambient temp is probably at least a bit higher than yours.

Also, check your OC thread... I've got a few more ideas for you.

Thank you JaredC01 you have help me a lot in my long painful journey of OCing this CPU, which I will not be doing in a long time lol.

    Thanks again!

Those temps are about the same as mine for 3.4ghz.

Don't panic too much about the idle temps, unless they are really high. Only the load temps are important because that's when it's hottest.

Out of interest, what voltage do you need to get stable at 3.4ghz? I've used 1.35, need to check that though.

I'm using 1.400V right now, I'm really tempted to go 3.6 but I havent been able to get it stable that high yet. :wallbash:

I idle at about 45c on liquid cooling. Can't remember voltage, think its 1.36 ish. It's also the older version of the chip.

I thought liqued cooling was supposed to be really good? How come you're getting higher IDLE temps than me?

Mine is at 32 degrees on idle. I use a Zalman Reserator watercooler, but i think it's less capable then your TRUE

I think i got very lucky though, my Q6600 is perfectly stable on 3,4GHz, and happy with only 1,26V. It'll do 3,1 GHz on 1,18V

WHAT! 3.4GHz stable on 1.2V that's insane congrats on that. What do you use to test if it stable?

I ran IBT, and about two hours of Prime95. I admit it is cheating somewhat, since a good overclock is supposed to last 8 hours, but the reserator doesn't do that. You heat up the watertank over time, so temps can tip over 70 degrees after two hours, which is where i draw the line.

I run my radiator fans really slow for a quiet computer. My CPU blocks not that great either.

EDIT: Oh, I was using everest to measure CPU temp. Everest reports about a 45c idle. Realtemp reports about a 30c idle.

around 40c idling at 3.4Ghz here. idle temperature doesn't matter, load temperature is what matters.

as a matter of fact, RealTemp reading is wrong for q6600. q6600 TjMax is at 100c, NOT 95c. CoreTemp is and has always been correct for my Q6600 G0. (CoreTemp, Everest, CPUID Monitor all gives me same temperature, thus TjMax for q6600 G0 is at 100c)

Just tried CoreTemp, it gives me identical readings as RealTemp.

    Edit: Here's my load temp:

That's while running x64 prime95 on all four cores for a few minutes.

    After a few minutes.

Edit: Readings are the same as everest with TJ max set to 100.

My Q6600 is a B3 Revision if that makes any difference to its actual TJ max.

i said RealTemp got Tjmax wrong, i didn't say CoreTemp are wrong.

those load temperature seem just about acceptable. im running top 70c instead of 72, but you have nothing to worry about.

he mentioned that he has the older version, which i think is the B3 stepping, the G0 stepping which most of us here have clocks at a much lower voltage hence lower(ish) temps.
