I never would have guessed.... till I saw your name. Ripley: What's your interest in all this? Why are you going? Burke: The Company co-financed that colony, along with Colonial Administration. We're getting into a lot of terraforming now..."building better worlds"... Ripley: Yeah, yeah. I saw the commercial.
ok back to the security card how did you make it so that it needed to be inserted for the power switch to work? please elaborate as MUCH as possible. i think that's really cool.
isn't Soylent Cola in Futurama, they mention it in the episode with Fry and the Slurm Factory, Soylent Cola, it's made of people. "How is it?" "It varies from person to person."
It comes from the movie Soylent Green. In which the food staple given to the public is made out of recycled people. And yes I can imagine how the security card works. *stares at the PCMCIA slots attached to a dead laptop motherboard It's possible to do something similar with a card reader. You just need to find the spec on which pins are the power input and ground.
Nice work, i just love it, nice and small with a mini-door to boot! Also the placing of the mesh makes it look really cool, i hope you like dust though!
I really like this mod!!!! It's got me to thinking about some of my other favorite Sci-Fi's movies, books, comics!!!! Awesome job!!!
I tried that, but did not go that route in case I may have killed the card. Never know I may need the card in a pinch to configure an old router. I went with the old roller-switch mythod.... pic's later as soon as I take them.
Ah I see. It would also be pretty clever to have a card reader with a security card that has a fowarding autoexec file on it. Then set the card reader as the only boot device after the CD-ROM drive. But that would be overkill.
Besides the actual reader is quite dead. wait till you see the pic's, kinda funny/ kinda sad chop job.
i have a similar thing for software security. it runs on the same basic principle. it is an autoexec on my thumbdrive and it will log me in to windows. when i remove it it will lock my keyboard and mouse and lock the screen. while this solution works well i prefer a hardware lock more. maybe thats because i am an electrical engineer , anyhow i have never seen anyone use it with a pcmcia card before. nice!!
if somone can point me in the way for a security guide using teh autoexe file or wat ever tha would be great, i love the idea of nit however dont hvae hte knowledge to do it myself. Love the case man
A little more on painting This bit-tech article is exactly how I did the stenciling with paint for this project. I did not like the dust part but that’s just my 2 cents. In any event it explains the process a lot better than I did. http://www.bit-tech.net/article/154/ Update: work continues, just very slowly as I really have little personal modding time. I am building up to a large update.....
The work continues... Well I finally finished the painting; I am so close to being done -I can taste it. Here are some pics that I took while I painted the control panel, hope you like them. But first here is a little change, I took the transmitter for the wire mouse and put inside the navcom device. Now the navcom device has an 8-port network switch, a usb hub, a 7-type multimedia card reader and it also handles the wireless mouse. Range is pretty good too! Here is a mockup that I made, just below it is the metal faceplate that I had just cut out. Now its been riveted into place. Here I am starting on the paint job, black first since that is the color of the lettering. Right after this point I stick the patterns down and then remove them when all the other colors are done. Basic painting done. And after a little weathering. And with all the weathering complete. Another shot with it attached to the pc..... The next update should be the last one!!!
