Saw a huge pile of those Yamahas for £175 at Costco on Sunday.
They also list Cap's shield for £160.
Had a Marvel-related thought though. Leave the roof off the LEGO corvette, and call it Coulson's Lola?

Right, it's been a LONG time since I've updated this thread. I've been focussing on Warhammer, which is all spread over my Lego building table now.. I hope to build a Lego model over Christmas, but my brother will murder me if I don't have an army ready to play against him by Christmas.

The AT-AT is complete!





I bought a couple of extra little Snow trooper kits, so all the jet bike racks are filled up and I have a few more crew members.

Purchases:

The nice thing about holding off for a while is that I got all these at good prices - picked up the Yamaha in a Black Friday sale from ASDA. I'm going to hold off buying the new Liebherr crane until next year - although it can currently be bought for 15% off, I reckon next year it'll go down to 20% off at some point, which given it's a £540 set, is pretty damn significant!

Going to need to put up some new shelves...

Dam this lego, my daughter is getting into it again and wants to build a massive star wars speeder she only has a small bedroom

 

Mistakes were made at Costco this morning

 

Anyone who's been holding off on the Leibherr crane over the price might like to visit the rainforest today, where it's down by 31%, from £580 to £402

That's a damn good price. I doubt it'll ever get any lower than that - 30% is the lowest you'll ever see off Lego, unless you start buying second hand.

Time to start this big thing:



I had a lazy, relaxed weekend, so progress was minimal:



The turntable that supports the entire superstructure is a similar mechanism to the Liebherr R 9800 Excavator but hs been chonkified, presumably to handle the increased moments the massive crane arm will exert.

Anyway, the plan for this year is Lego at the weekends, Warhammer during the week.

 

Actually got this far last weekend but forgot to upload:



The control hub is actually back to front, which I found out when the instructions get you to test the motors. All sorted now.

More progress soon...

 

And here's where I got to yesterday:



All three of those motors each power a spool of cable (well, thread). Going to be interesting to see how the crane arm moves with this method of control.

I lost a few minutes searching for a small light bley bit I accidentally pinged off the table when a sub assembly slipped out of my hands.

Will be finished next week as I've booked the week off to chill out at home.

The scale of this model is something I've not encountered before - I even knocked my head on the jib once when standing from my chair. I think a lot of people will struggle to find a place in their home to keep it on display! It's also surprisingly fast - I actually had to duck under it when the software was taking me through the tutorials and did a 180 turntable spin. If you're interested in knowing how much it can actually lift, check out this video:



I'm really impressed by the model as although relatively simple (compared to, say, the supercars), the structure of the crane and the use of strings to control things is impressive to see in the flesh. On top of that, the control app is very nifty: as well as offering manual controls, the user can switch to a visual control method that allows dragging the crane arm into position.

And now onto the next project...stay tuned.

 

And we're off again!



I've actually already done the leg understructure too. Hopefully I'll get the feet done tomorrow, so it'll be standing tall. A little bit fiddly so far, mainly due to the fact that it's awkward to hold without accidentally pushing bits off. This'll be remedied when the overstructure is added.

The ankles are cleverly set at an angle by a perfect "misalignment". Anyway, more building to be done...

 

Those are hardcore Lego slippers @Pete J , treading on just one piece is bad enough.

That's step 995 completed. Of 2420. On the positive side, I'm now pretty sure it's not going to be so tall that I can't fit it in its intended display place.

 

Was going to ask @Pete J , you build a lot - where on earth to you put it all?

Or is it a case of dedicating the West wing of your grounds solely to Lego?

 

I have a LOT of shelves. One day, when I consider the collection complete enough*, I may do a small video.

And the West wing is going to be for Warhammer .
