Since I was never going to get it finished this weekend, I decided to do the little chap going inside instead:

    Righto, until next weekend.

    Uppy datey time:

Unfortunately, I think I won't have it ready this weekend either. The design of the build results in the inability to break it down into sub-assemblies, so adding on a brick or two at a time significantly slows down progress - even with building left and right hand side bits at the same time. Also, muggins here needs to pop out to the shops in a couple of hours or so as he didn't buy enough food to last the weekend.

In the meantime, let's do a little upcoming Lego sets review:

    42170 Kawasaki Ninja H2R Motorcycle

This has just been released and I'll definitely picking it up when it probably gets to <£56. Reviews are good, and I've already bought a new little shelf to put it on - going to have to rejig the other bikes though.

76271 Batman: The Animated Series Gotham City™

Probably not going to get this, but I have a soft spot for the animated series as it was one of my favourite cartoons during my childhood - in fact, I had it playing for a while last weekend and damn, is it still good.

    And the rest...

Easier just to watch this video:

Of particular note for me is:
    • McLaren supercar - OF COURSE Imma getting this, provided it's the full fat affair with a multispeed gearbox and a piston engine. Naturally, I'll also wait for the upgrade that jb70 will inevitably do.
    • Bumblebee - that is an awesome looking model.
    • Barad-dur - I feel obligated to get this to keep Sauron happy. I'm not even a LotR fan!
    • Blacktron cruiser thing - maybe I should start collecting the reborn Classic range...

    End of weekend progress:

Started on the arms. So NEXT weekend I'll finish it. Hopefully.

Yup, definitely going to see what happens to the price over the course of several months.

This weekend, I shall be finishing the Hulkbuster, but another brief little update - I bought a thing:

I was keeping an eye on the set just before it was retired and was gutted to miss out - as you can imagine, all the sets shot up in price after that. I kind of gave up hope after that, but after a little chat in the office with a colleague about the Lego Ideas series, I did a little search and found someone selling an unopened set for only a few quid more than RRP, citing some minor box damage. Realising that this was the best opportunity I was going to get, I snapped it up. Fortunately, the damage really is minor; the seller probably could've got more in auction, or kept it a bit longer and charged more.

1969 pieces? Well played, Lego, well played.

Anyway, I now need to have a think where I'm going to start displaying the inevitable space Lego collection...

This was just about the first large set I bought when it came out.
I love the SNOT* technique used. Out of a metre-high model, I think there are only around 16 studs visible, and everything is printed. No stickers whatsoever!

*SNOT - Stud Not On Top (for the non-brickheads reading this)

I absolutely love this set. It’s a great model and the way it’s constructed blew my mind.

Still don’t have the balls to stand it up on the first stage though, even though it can supposedly support its own weight! Nah, I’ll stick to the horizontal stands!

    Almost there:

Getting the little b*****d in was harder than expected. I actually ended up modifying the bottom of the "arse" area a little bit as otherwise it was prone to falling off with the weight of the chap inside acting down on it.

It's perfectly cromulent standing upright. I just wish the matching launch tower had gotten through the LEGO Ideas process.

    Well, she's done!

Extremely happy with the model, but a bit more fragile compared to what I expect the official model is like. I've stuck some of the stickers on from the set for the most obvious parts, but may go and put some more on at a later date. The chest and knee arc reactors light up nicely, I just didn't bother to turn them on for the photo as they can be a little awkward to access.

Whelp, that's two large models (and a small one) made so far this year. Think I'm going to get some Warhammer done for the next couple of weeks or so before tackling the next project...

I stole it from the Simpsons.
BTW - I found both the midi-scale Millenium Falcon & the UCS R2-D2 at Costco yesterday.
EDIT - Pics in purchases thread.

“Oh this won’t be too bad, it’s only 900-odd pieces”…

Several hundred tiny fiddly little parts later…

I do like that you have the option to have plain green leaves or “cherry blossoms”. I haven’t assembled the leaves yet, but I will do at some point.

    But yeah… fiddly af!

Bad news for wallets - LEGO are doing a NASA Artemis rocket on May 15th, complete with launch tower!
US price is thought to be $260, and it will be exclusive to LEGO stores at first.
Scale looks to be 1:160, not the 1:110 of the Saturn V.
